$20K in Jewelry Stolen from Fairfax home

The Fairfax Police blotter for Feb. 13-19 includes two burglaries and an adopted son who keeps getting unsolicited e-mails from his biological family.

 

Tuesday, Feb. 19

Harassing phone calls: 12:06 p.m. Ridgeway Avenue. RP adopted her son and his biological family just started sending him e-mails. RP asked for the family to not send e-mails and to “go at her son’s speed” but they won’t stop.

Threats: 12:09 p.m. Live Oak Avenue. RP would like to speak with an officer about threats she received from her neighbor.

Theft: 2:17 p.m. Forrest Avenue. Recycle bins were stolen on Feb. 16. Confirmed with Marin Sanitary Service they didn’t take the bins.

 

Monday, Feb. 18

Citizen assist: 10:36 a.m. Kent Avenue and Belmont Avenue. RP is going to sell her deceased father’s motor home and noticed that the rear license plate is missing. Unknown if there was one there to begin with.

 

Sunday, Feb. 17

Welfare check: 9:31 a.m. Porteous Avenue. Female in her 40’s says she can’t move. RP thinks she’s having a “break down.” Subject said she needs to go to Unit B.

Noise complaint: 8:18 p.m. Scenic Road. RP said there was a loud party across the street and the RP would just like them to take it inside.

Loud party: 8:49 p.m. Scenic Road. RP said there was a loud party in the area and now vehicles are “hot rodding” up and down the road.

 

Saturday, Feb. 16

Suspicious circumstances: 1:48 p.m. Forrest Avenue. RP asked to speak with an officer about her missing recycling bins. She advised her neighbors also noticed their bins are missing.

Suspicious circumstances: 10:15 p.m. Park Road and School. Two of the RP’s bicycles were reported stolen previously. RP saw three people leaving an apartment with RP’s stolen mountain bike. Occurred an hour ago.

 

Friday, Feb. 15 

Offensive signs: 7:47 a.m. Fairfax Plaza on Center Blvd. RP said a subject is posting offensive signs on the property, by the parking lot. The driver doesn’t see a table or booth connected to the signs.

Domestic violence: 6:44 p.m. Scenic Road and Manor Road. Subject walked into the lobby and said his girlfriend had just attacked him.

Theft: Fairfix Café on Broadway. RP was waiting on a customer present when a customer stole the RP’s cell phone.

 

Thursday, Feb. 14 

Roosters: 9:52 a.m. Tamalpais Road. RP reported a neighbor with roosters that crow on and off throughout the day.

Suspicious person: 2:21 p.m. Sequoia Road. A man in his 40’s with short hair, carrying a clipboard and wearing a belt with things clipped to it around his waist. RP said the subject walked up to her neighbor’s door twice, peering in the door and window.

Sleeper: 5:54 p.m. Bolinas Road. Across from the water tank. RP observed four subjects carrying backpacks and sleeping bags hiking up to the water tower. Marin County Sheriff’s Office was advised.

 

Wednesday, Feb. 13

Burglary: 5:08 p.m. Manzanita Road. Occurred sometime today. Roughly $20,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the RP’s bedroom.

Burglary: 7:18 p.m. Manzanita Road. RP’s home was broken into sometime during the day. Does not appear anything was taken.

What's the deal? Did all his comments get flagged and deleted, and now he's re-posting them? Most curious.

Many people in Marin are already at 50% or more of their entire income to pay for housing. And weRead More have no rent control here in Marin which is the only way I've seen that most seniors have been able to stay in San Francisco for several decades. Regarding your statement: "Market rate housing generates tax revenues, which in turn pay for schools, parks, emergency services, etc." Low income people pay a lot of sales tax in Marin (which is really high) and that also supports these causes. If they don't have the money to pay property taxes to own property, then the fact is, they just can't pay it. Be thankful that a large group of the population in Marin makes enough money to own property and pay it (and turn around and sell their houses for a handsome profit as well, don't forget about that.) Some folks here are just SPOILED rotten. Perhaps you should lobby that Marin employers just pay people living wages so they can afford to become buyers here and pay property taxes instead of trying to lobby against housing for the poor. Goodness knows how many taxes child-free low income people have paid to support wealthy folks kids and schools here. We don't get any of that, either, but we still have to pay for it...

I've heard that Marin is already in violation (either state or federal, or both) of not havingRead More enough low income housing in the county for its population. I think the county is under pressure to come into compliance which it has been out of in this area for a long time. This can only serve to better the lives of low income and elderly people in our county and perhaps reduce homelessness as well which is something we sorely need to do. However, what is amazing to me is that what we are calling "low income" housing in Marin still costs $1K+ a month per person from what I can tell. That's not "low income". Someone paying that much needs to be earning about $4K a month to keep housing costs in the 25-30% range that every financial planner recommends for a basic budget. I see a lot of low income people working HARD full-time to earn $1,600 a month here in restaurants, grocery stores, retail, hair salons, gyms, even clinics. They can't afford to live in Marin so many of them commute in from the east bay and further north to work in Marin. That is what is not sustainable. Think about the gas and pollution and the quality of life in the community due to turnover because there is no personal interaction with the staff of a lot of these places anymore because they don't stick around for very long.
