A Baby Mountain Lion and Four Young Coyotes Reported

The San Anselmo Police Log for August 1-5 includes several reports categorized as a "juvenile problem."

 

Sunday, August 5

Oh deer: 12:11 a.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Caller reported there were several deer in the center divider. Caller was concerned they could cause a traffic hazard. The area was checked and the deer were moved along.

Juvenile problem: 2:19 a.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. While conducting foot patrol officer abated some juveniles from the area without incident.

Assist: 7:01 a.m. Yolanda Drive. Caller reported he was awoken by a foul odor in the residence. Reporting person said he didn't think it was natural gas, but smelled more like tar, but no smoke was seen. Fire Department to handle. A police unit stood by for assistance.

DUI: 3:28 p.m. Red Hill Avenue. Caller reported a male driver was swerving and having trouble maintaining the lanes. He appeared to be falling asleep. Officer located the vehicle and contacted the driver, who was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. The subject refused a chemical test and became physically combative with officers upon arriving at the hospital. He was medically cleared and booked into Marin County Jail.

Disturbing the peace: 9:15 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Officer saw a group fighting in the area. Several juveniles were contacted and it was determined subjects were challenging each other to fight and no physical contact was made. A female parent attempted to intervene. An informational case was taken and the group was abated from the area.

Juvenile problem: 10:49 p.m. Ross Avenue. Multiple callers reported juveniles playing basketball on private property. An officer responded and when the subjects saw him, fled the area. Juveniles were located and were turned over to a parent.

 

Saturday, August 4

Suspicious circumstances: 12:02 a.m. Meadowcroft Road. Caller reported she was walking in the area and found a steady stream of water draining from the backyard of the noted residence into the drain. Officers responded and determined the resident forgot to turn off the water while filling up their pool. They were contacted and the water was turned off.

Loud party: 12:22 a.m. San Anselmo Avenue and Center Blvd. Caller reported she heard a loud party somewhere in the area with intoxicated subjects yelling profanities. The area was checked and the party was not located.

Phone anger: 1:55 a.m. Grove Hill Av North. Caller reported he heard his female neighbor yelling. Officers checked the area and made contact with the neighbor who refused to open the door. The subject stated she was having an angry conversation with someone on the phone, but she would quiet down.

Loud party: 3:25 a.m. Hawthorne Avenue. Caller reported there was a loud party at her neighbor’s residence. The party was located and contact was made with the responsible. He was advised of the complaint and advised he would bring everyone inside.

Suspicious circumstances: 12:29 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Caller reported he received a call from his girlfriend and she sounded as if she was in distress. Officers responded to the location she was possibly at, but the reporting person called back to cancel response as he spoke to her again and she was fine.

Public intoxication: 2:52 p.m. Pine Street. Caller reported there was an intoxicated subject sitting near her front yard. Officers responded and the subject was determined to be intoxicated while in public. The subject was arrested and transported to Marin County Jail for public intoxication and violation of probation. A report was taken.

Annoying phone calls: 6:49 p.m. Red Hill Avenue. Caller reported she was receiving threatening phones calls from family members and she would like advice. Officer responded and made contact with the RP.

Barking dogs: 10:38 p.m. Woodside Drive. Caller reported several dogs were barking for over two hours in the area above her residence. Officer located some of the barking dogs at the noted residence, but a responsible was not home and a notice was left. Contact was made with a responsible via land wire, she advised she would respond home to put the dogs inside.

Friday, August 3

Prowler: 12:46 a.m. San Francisco Blvd. Caller reported his daughter and her boyfriend saw two subjects in their backyard with flashlights. They confronted the subjects, who then ran down the street. Unknown if they were prowlers or juveniles. The area was checked and the subjects were not located. Contact was made with the RP. The residence was checked and there were no signs of attempted entry.

Illegal dumping: 9:46 a.m. Sunnyhills Drive. Caller reported there was illegal dumping of garbage at the property and she had suspect information. Officer responded and retrieved the suspect’s information. Contact was made with the suspects, one of which admitted to illegally dumping garbage at the property. The reporting person was advised and stated she did not want to pursue charges and requested documentation only. The subjects were warned about their behavior.

Suspicious circumstances: 5:15 p.m. San Anselmo Avenue. Caller reported two subjects were at the residence with a moving truck and were not authorized to be there. Officers responded and contacted the subject who was a victim of circumstance, his girlfriend advised him to place items in the residence. Officers advised the subjects they were not allowed to be on the property and were given a No Trespass warning.

Child calls 911: 6:52 p.m. Woodland Avenue. Caller was a seven-year-old child who dialed 911 in error and also mentioned his parents were arguing. The child provided a street name, but not an address and then disconnected the line before getting further. Officers checked the area where the cellphone pinged to and the family was located. Contact was made with the parents and the child. Everything appeared to be fine.

Disturbing the peace: 8:58 p.m. Mariposa Avenue and Jones Street. Caller reported she heard a verbal altercation involving a male subject and children. It was unknown what was being said, but caller thought it may have been physical at one point. Officers checked the area on foot, but the altercation was not located. Contact was made with the RP who was unable to provide a better location. Several neighbors were also contacted, but did not hear the altercation.

Juvenile problem: 10:34 p.m. Veterans Place. Officer stood by as several carloads of juveniles were abated from the area.

 

Thursday, August 2

Animal complaint: 9:17 a.m. Lincoln Park. Reporting person said there was a baby mountain lion laying down at the end of the street. The area was checked and another resident said four young coyotes had been playing in her yard this morning. The RP was advised.

Suspicious circumstances: 2:48 p.m. Karl Avenue. Caller reported his motion sensor has been moved or removed from the side of his house  On Sunday 7/29/12, his neighbor called reporting some noisy subjects in that area of his house. Contact made with the RP. Determined the sensor could have been moved or removed anytime within the last couple of weeks, and there is no indication the previous call coincides with this one.

Sleeper problem: 4:34 p.m. Veterans Place. Caller reported that about 50-75 feet up the hillside, there is an ongoing problem with sleepers. One female has a rolling cart hooked to a bike, with her belongings inside. The cart is currently by the fence to the rear. Reporting person heard glass breaking last night and early morning through the early afternoon hours. Area checked and an unoccupied cart was located. 

Assault/battery: 6:55 p.m. Butterfield Road and Arroyo Avenue. Caller reported her 20-year-old daughter was running up Butterfield Road when a gray or silver vehicle, occupied by four young male subjects, pulled up beside her.  One of the occupants then slapped the daughter on her backside, without the vehicle slowing down. The vehicle was last seen headed up Butterfield towards the dead end as the daughter ran home. The area was checked. Contact made with the victim, who couldn't provide a license plate or any additional suspect information. She declined a report and advice was given. 

Juvenile problem: 10:38 p.m. Tomahawk Drive and Indian Rock Road. Caller reported several vehicles have parked at the end of the street and subjects (16-18 old males and females) carrying packs are walking into the open space. The area was checked and the trail was walked all the way to the top. A group was seen leaving after the officers passed by.

 

Wednesday, August 1

Loud juveniles: 1:33 a.m. Berkeley Avenue. Anonymous caller reported a group of juveniles were being loud in the street. Officers responded and contacted six juveniles who were abated from the area. 

Civil problem: 6:01 p.m. Merced Avenue. Caller reported her daughter’s ex-boyfriend was outside of her residence sending her text messages that he left his bicycle at the residence. Caller  stated she did not see the bicycle and she did not want to talk to the subject. Officers responded and contacted the subject. Officers stood by while he retrieved his property.
