Alleged Bank Robber Nabbed in Strawberry

After a witness reported seeing the man suspected of robbing three Marin banks in late March, Sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers arrest a 23-year-old San Francisco man at the Tamalpais Motel.

Nearly two weeks after a of undisclosed amounts of cash, the man suspected of committing the robberies was arrested at the  on Tuesday evening, law enforcement authorities said.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office received a tip at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday that a man matching the description of the suspect in a and a third robbery on March 30 was spotted driving along the Redwood Hwy. Frontage Road in Strawberry, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Hale.

Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers went to the scene and spotted the vehicle in the parking lot of the Tamalpais Motel at 680 Redwood Hwy. Frontage Road, Hale said.

Officers contacted the suspect inside one of the rooms at the motel and positively identified him as the person who robbed the Bank of Marin in Novato on March 28, as well as the the Citibank in Greenbrae and the Wells Fargo Bank in Strawberry Village on March 30, Hale said.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Cory Allen Todd of San Francisco. He was booked into Marin County Jail on three counts of robbery.

The arrest concludes nearly two weeks of investigation for the Sheriff’s Office. In each robbery, the suspect was described as a white male in his 20s with bleach blond hair, approximately 5-foot-9 and wearing a yellow plaid baggy shirt, dark sunglasses and a dark colored baseball hat. In the Novato robbery, caught on surveillance cameras, the man wore a San Francisco Giants cap.

During the Strawberry incident, the last of the three thefts, the man gave a note to the teller demanding money and then brandished a handgun when the teller didn't immediately respond. He fled on foot after receiving some cash.

Hale said the agencies will not disclose the amount of cash stolen, but he said no money was taken during the Greenbrae event.

Todd, who described himself as unemployed when he was booked into jail, remains in custody on $75,000 bail for each count of robbery.
