Assassination Scams, PG&E Cons, a Creepy Ex and Who Keeps Stealing the Letters from the Red Hill Center Sign?

A roundup of Central Marin Police Authority activities in San Anselmo from the past two weeks is chock full of thefts and burglaries.

A resident of the 20 block of Butterfield Rd. reported someone opened a credit account using her name and personal information. $747.57 was charged on the account and then closed it a couple days later. A Fraud report was taken and there is possible further investigation pending.

An employee of Andronico’s market, located at 100 Center Blvd., reported they have a male subject in custody for the theft of $30 in food. A San Rafael man was arrested for Shoplift and was released on a citation.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office reported they recovered a vehicle reported as stolen to CMPA on April 16, 2013, from the area of the 40 block of Crest Road. The vehicle was not damaged, stripped, or burned, no plates were missing, and no one was in custody. The owner was notified and the vehicle was removed from the Stolen Vehicle System.

The management company for the Redhill Shopping Center reported the theft of fourteen inch tall letters from the entry signage to the shopping center. The letters ‘E’ and ‘D’ were taken for a loss of $4,200. A Grand Theft report was taken. Someone had previously stolen an "E' from the sign.

A Fairfax resident who owns a plumbing business reported that while he was on a job in the 500 block of Redwood Road, one of his employees got mad and "lost it." He said the subject pulled out a knife, slashed his tires, broke into the work vehicle and took items from it. A report was taken for Vandalism and Theft. There is follow-up pending.

A Woodacre resident reported he is house sitting for a friend in the 50 block of Bella Vista Ave. and found a broken kitchen window and a ball bearing sitting in the sink. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

Numerous callers reported via 9-1-1 that a vehicle struck a parked vehicle and there was airbag deployment on Butterfield Road at Carlson Ave. CMPA Officers and the Ross Valley Fire Department responded. The driver was contacted and determined to be under the influence of alcohol. A Greenbrae man was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol. After processing at the CMPA San Anselmo Station, he was booked at the Marin County Jail.

Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 300 block of Sir Francis Drake Blvd., the CMPA Officer noted a smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After a search of vehicle and occupants, a Salinas man was arrested for Possession of Narcotics. He was booked at the Marin County Jail. The driver, a Salinas woman, was released on a citation for vehicle code violations.

A resident of the 160 block of Tunstead Ave. reported she is being stalked by man she knows from a prior relationship. She advised the subject broke into her residence by jumping the back fence and “jimmied” the sliding glass door, which now will not operate properly. She said the subject rearranged her belongings into a "shrine." A Residential Burglary report was taken and she was given information on obtaining a restraining order. There is further investigation pending.

A San Anselmo resident reported two children's bicycles were stolen from the bike cage at Wade Thomas School. One bicycle was a white Specialized Hard Rock and the other was a red Trek Mountain Lion. The loss is approximately $150. Documentation was provided for the theft.

A resident of the 10 block of Elkhorn Way reported someone entered their residence last night and took a computer monitor. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

A resident of the 10 block of Kenrick Drive reported someone used their personal information to open lines of credit at nine different retail stores, mostly in the East Bay. An Identity Theft report was taken and there is possible follow-up pending.

On May 10, a teller for the Bank of America San Anselmo branch, located at 401 San Anselmo Ave., reported there is a subject in the bank trying to cash a fraudulent check. The person passing the check was a male subject, and there was also another male subject sitting nearby waiting for the transaction to be completed. Upon CMPA Officers arrival, a third male subject fled the bank in a vehicle, striking an Officer as it left. A pursuit ensued and continued to southbound US 101. The pursuit ended near the E. Blithedale off-ramp as the vehicle collided with an empty school bus. An Oakland man was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Evading, Obstructing a Peace Officer in the Performance of his Duties, Commercial Burglary and Conspiracy. The second subject who had been inside the bank fled on foot. There was a short foot pursuit, with the suspect last seen going over fences into back yards, before he was able to evade the officers. The subject attempting to cash the check was determined to be an additional victim who was conned into cashing the fraudulent check by the other two involved subjects.

A San Anselmo resident reported the catalytic converter was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal. The loss is approximately $3500. A Grand Theft report was taken.

A resident of the 190 block of Oak Ave. reported he had just come up stairs from the studio below his residence and found two subjects inside his residence. He stated when the subjects saw him, they left the residence and got into a vehicle for which he provided a description. A CMPA Officer responding to the area located the vehicle on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and College Ave. It was stopped in the 100 block of Sir Francis Drake Blvd., resulting in the detention of the two occupants, where they were positively identified by the resident. A Richmond woman and a San Francisco woman were arrested for Residential Burglary and after processing at CMPA, they were booked at the Marin County Jail.

A resident of the 130 block of Saunders Ave. reported he received an e-mail from an unknown subject stating his “life was going to come to an end.” The sender wrote that he had ordered three of his men to watch his every move until the assassination. The e-mail was determined to be an internet scam. Documentation was provided for the incident.

A resident of the 160 block of Tunstead Ave. reported he received letters from several department stores advising him that someone had opened lines of credit in his name. Approximately $750 in charges have been made.  An Identity Theft report was taken.

The owner of a restaurant in the 200 block of Magnolia Ave. reported a male subject called the business stating he was with PG&E and he needed to pick up a money order for $1,300 or he would shut off the power. He said the caller stated the subject told him he is en route to the business soon to pick up the check or shut off the power. The call was determined to be a scam and he was given advice. Documentation was provided for the incident.

The owner of a restaurant in the 500 block of San Anselmo Ave. reported the business received a call yesterday from a male subject representing himself as PG&E, stating their bill was overdue, and the power was going to be turned off. He called the number back and told the subject the bill had been paid, but the subject said that once the bill was turned over to collections, they would turn the power off anyway. He was directed to CVS to get "MoneyPaks" for $1,042 to be sent to the subject, which he did. He later contacted PG&E and found out this was a scam. He called MoneyPak and found out they had not yet been redeemed and has received a refund. A Fraud report was taken.

A resident of the 200 block of Butterfield Road reported he evicted his tenant and when the tenant picked up the final load of his belongings today, he took a wood smoker for smoking meat valued at $300. He said he has contacted the subject via phone and asked him to return it, but he refused to do so. A Petty Theft report was taken and there is possible follow-up pending.

A Petaluma resident reported her husband's iPhone 5 was lost in Petaluma. She advised that tracking is showing the phone was now at an address in the 60 block of Sais Av. She had been referred to CMPA by the Petaluma Police Department. A CMPA Officer went to the address with her and contacted the residents. They advised they were landscapers and had located the phone in Petaluma, but had not been back there yet to turn in the phone. The phone and owner were reunited.
