Body Found in Structure at Fire Scene Near Fairfax

The cause of the early-morning fire is under investigation.

 

Firefighters and law enforcement officials found a body in ashes and debris after a fire nearly completely destroyed a small structure in Cascade Canyon near Fairfax early Friday morning. 

Someone reported flames and smoke around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 30 and officials located a burning structure at the end of a long dirt driveway off Meadow Way.

Firefighters carried 700 feet of hose from the road to reach the 20-foot by 35-foot structure. The body was found around 2:30 a.m.

The Marin County Fire Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire. Marin County, Ross Valley Fire and Kentfield departments responded to the blaze.

The identify of the victim has not been released, nor has information on the approximate age or gender, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
