Commotion Near Alpine Dam No Cause for Alarm

Call of car in water proves to be misleading.

A call around noon to the County Fire Department that reported a car stuck in the water at Alpine Dam prompted a rapid response from Fairfax police, sheriff officers and county fire trucks. The frenzy of alarms headed up Bolinas Road concerned a number of residents in town.

However, nothing was found in or near the lake, said Lt. Barry Heying.

A second call from the same caller had officers narrowing down the search to the Bolinas Lagoon, but again nothing was found, Heying said.

There were some translation difficulties between officers and the Spanish-speaking caller, Heying said, but in the end officers found nothing indicating any vehicle had gone off the road anywhere near Alpine Dam or Bolinas Lagoon. The Marin County Fire dispatchers also couldn't speculate as to how that misunderstanding had occurred.
