Fairfax Blotter: Drive-By Shooting Threat and Burglaries

The Fairfax Police blotter for Jan. 10-15 includes some destructive “horsing around” outside the Fairfax Coffee Roastery.

 

Thursday, Jan. 10 

Harassing phone call: 9:51 a.m. Hillside Drive. RP (reporting person) received a phone call from an unknown number that said there was going to be a drive-by shooting in Fairfax, then disconnected.

Town code violation: 11:27 a.m. St. Rita’s School on Marinda Drive. RP said there is an encampment on the hill directly across from the playground. Unknown if people are there now.

Burglary: 11:17 p.m. Pine Drive. Entry was through the unlocked front door. His iPad and a coin jar are missing.

 

Friday, Jan. 11 

Citizen assist: 1:07 p.m. Fairfax Police Department on Bolinas Road. RP locked his bike, a Specialized Rockhopper, accidentally with an unfamiliar lock. RP wants to cut the chain but is worried someone will call. RP has no paperwork on the bicycle.

Unwanted subject: 8:40 p.m. 19 Broadway. A man got into the bar by claiming he was “with the band.” When it was determined the subject was not with the band he refused to leave. Subject was warned.

Miscellaneous service: 11:03 p.m. Fairfax Coffee Roastery on Bolinas Road. Walk-in RP said an intoxicated man was “horsing around” in front of the closed business and accidentally broke a large planter. The RP loaned the man a pen and the man said he wrote his name and number on a paper and slid it inside the front door. RP wanted the PD to know that the breakage was accidental and not an act of criminal vandalism.

 

Saturday, Jan. 12

Noise complaint: 12:23 a.m. Wall property on Marinda Drive. Four to five people were being loud at the ledge. Five subjects were warned and abated.

Welfare check: 4:46 p.m. Tamalpais Road. 70-year-old female refusing to get out of bed. This has been going on for two days.

Public intoxication: 9:05 p.m. 19 Broadway. Report of a subject acting very oddly, possibly on drugs.

 

Sunday, Jan. 13

Town code violation: 10:37 a.m. St. Rita’s Church on Marinda Drive. Complaint of a homeless encampment between the old hall and church in the bushes. Subject was contacted, given a trespassing warning and abated from the area.

Disturbance: 11:14 p.m. Canyon Road. RP requested assistance regarding a verbal dispute he was having with his roommate.

Animal attack? 11:31 p.m. Sherwood Oaks Apartments on Bolinas Road. RP reported hearing what sounded like a very large animal attacking another animal behind the complex.

 

Monday, Jan. 14

Theft: 4:57 a.m. Aureo Way. RP reported someone went through his car and stole property.

Hazard: 1:09 p.m. Lansdale Avenue. RP said a water line is broken at the residence on the right side of the roof near the solar panels.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 15

Parking complaint: 9:21 p.m. Napa Avenue and Pacheco Avenue. RP reported a Lexus parked on the wrong side of the street, creating a potential hazard for vehicles turning from Pacheco.

Many people in Marin are already at 50% or more of their entire income to pay for housing. And weRead More have no rent control here in Marin which is the only way I've seen that most seniors have been able to stay in San Francisco for several decades. Regarding your statement: "Market rate housing generates tax revenues, which in turn pay for schools, parks, emergency services, etc." Low income people pay a lot of sales tax in Marin (which is really high) and that also supports these causes. If they don't have the money to pay property taxes to own property, then the fact is, they just can't pay it. Be thankful that a large group of the population in Marin makes enough money to own property and pay it (and turn around and sell their houses for a handsome profit as well, don't forget about that.) Some folks here are just SPOILED rotten. Perhaps you should lobby that Marin employers just pay people living wages so they can afford to become buyers here and pay property taxes instead of trying to lobby against housing for the poor. Goodness knows how many taxes child-free low income people have paid to support wealthy folks kids and schools here. We don't get any of that, either, but we still have to pay for it...

I've heard that Marin is already in violation (either state or federal, or both) of not havingRead More enough low income housing in the county for its population. I think the county is under pressure to come into compliance which it has been out of in this area for a long time. This can only serve to better the lives of low income and elderly people in our county and perhaps reduce homelessness as well which is something we sorely need to do. However, what is amazing to me is that what we are calling "low income" housing in Marin still costs $1K+ a month per person from what I can tell. That's not "low income". Someone paying that much needs to be earning about $4K a month to keep housing costs in the 25-30% range that every financial planner recommends for a basic budget. I see a lot of low income people working HARD full-time to earn $1,600 a month here in restaurants, grocery stores, retail, hair salons, gyms, even clinics. They can't afford to live in Marin so many of them commute in from the east bay and further north to work in Marin. That is what is not sustainable. Think about the gas and pollution and the quality of life in the community due to turnover because there is no personal interaction with the staff of a lot of these places anymore because they don't stick around for very long.
