Fairfax Police Logs: August 1-4

Aggresive dogs, barking dogs and burglary attempts. Arrest does not mean conviction.

Thursday, August 4

Alarm: An audible alarm occurred at the Canon Swim and Tennis Club on Mitchell Drive. The alarm was originating from chlorine room door.

Burglary: Reporting party on Wimbledon Lane heard a banging noise at 4:00 a.m. and saw a subject trying to gain entrance into his garage. A report was taken.

Burglary: Reporting party on Wimbledon Lane said that the subject who had tried to enter the home earlier was walking up the hill towards the reservoir. Subject was described as a tall white male wearing a grey jacket/hoodie and black pants. Subject was gone on arrival.

Burglary: Cascade Canyon School on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. reported that four new Mac computers, digital document camera and a projector were stolen sometime within the past month. A report was taken.

Barking Dog: Reporting party on Westbrae Drive says the neighbor’s dogs have been barking all day and night due to the neighbor being on vacation for a week now. Service provided.

Warrant Criminal: An officer initiated activity at Robinhood Manor Apartments on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. where a subject was arrested for four outstanding warrants.

Wednesday, August 3

Animal Complaint: At 11:29 a.m. on Scenic Road, the reporting party was attacked by an aggressive pitbull in the area. The dog was gone on arrival and they were unable to locate it.

Missing Person: At 7:35 p.m. the reporting party’s called about a 14-year-old son that had been missing since the previous day. He was located shortly after the report.

Noise Complaint: Two separate calls came in at 9:51 p.m. and 10 p.m. to report a loud outdoor party on Inyo Ave in Fairfax. The responsibles were advised of the complaint.

Tuesday, August 2

Town Code Violation: Anonymous complaint at 8:17 a.m. that workers at a residence on Creek Road started their chainsawing prior to 8:00 a.m. Reporting party would like them reiminded of town ordinance restrictions. Responsibles advised of complaint.

Barking Dog: The reporting party said there is an ongoing problem with a neighbor’s dog barking constantly. Today it has been barking since approximately 4:30 a.m.  Service provided.

Animal Complaint: Reporting party has called the Fairfax PD several times about a dead cat on his walkway. He has been referred to the Humane Society, but keeps calling the police about it. Service provided.

Suspicous Person: Reporting party heard someone come into her yard through a closed gate at approximately 10:36 p.m. When she confronted the man, he said he was looking for his cat and then left. She thought his behavior was odd and requested that officers check the area.

Monday, August 1

Citzen Assist: A delivery man called at 3:41 a.m. to report he was locked inside the Fairfax Café on Broadway because the doorknob broke. Service was provided.

Barking Dog: At 8:24 a.m. a caller reported an aggressive pitbul that was off leash near the entrance of the Fairfax Market. The dog was barking and bothering people going into the store.  Disposition: Verbal warning.

Noise Complaint: Reporting party called complaining about the constant beeping from the heavy equipment working downtown on Bolinas Road at Broadway. She requested her complaint be logged and she will follow up with the Town Council.

Barking Dog: At 10:04 p.m., a caller reported a dog barking all afternoon and into the night. The reporting party wanted the owners advised that she will sign a citizen’s arrest if the problem continues. The responsible party was advised of the complaint.

Many people in Marin are already at 50% or more of their entire income to pay for housing. And weRead More have no rent control here in Marin which is the only way I've seen that most seniors have been able to stay in San Francisco for several decades. Regarding your statement: "Market rate housing generates tax revenues, which in turn pay for schools, parks, emergency services, etc." Low income people pay a lot of sales tax in Marin (which is really high) and that also supports these causes. If they don't have the money to pay property taxes to own property, then the fact is, they just can't pay it. Be thankful that a large group of the population in Marin makes enough money to own property and pay it (and turn around and sell their houses for a handsome profit as well, don't forget about that.) Some folks here are just SPOILED rotten. Perhaps you should lobby that Marin employers just pay people living wages so they can afford to become buyers here and pay property taxes instead of trying to lobby against housing for the poor. Goodness knows how many taxes child-free low income people have paid to support wealthy folks kids and schools here. We don't get any of that, either, but we still have to pay for it...

I've heard that Marin is already in violation (either state or federal, or both) of not havingRead More enough low income housing in the county for its population. I think the county is under pressure to come into compliance which it has been out of in this area for a long time. This can only serve to better the lives of low income and elderly people in our county and perhaps reduce homelessness as well which is something we sorely need to do. However, what is amazing to me is that what we are calling "low income" housing in Marin still costs $1K+ a month per person from what I can tell. That's not "low income". Someone paying that much needs to be earning about $4K a month to keep housing costs in the 25-30% range that every financial planner recommends for a basic budget. I see a lot of low income people working HARD full-time to earn $1,600 a month here in restaurants, grocery stores, retail, hair salons, gyms, even clinics. They can't afford to live in Marin so many of them commute in from the east bay and further north to work in Marin. That is what is not sustainable. Think about the gas and pollution and the quality of life in the community due to turnover because there is no personal interaction with the staff of a lot of these places anymore because they don't stick around for very long.
