Former Fairfax Man Missing in Mexico

Lane Gilbert never appeared to a meeting on Aug. 27.

A 1981 graduate of Drake High School, Lane Gilbert has been missing in Mexico since Aug. 27. Gilbert, who has lived in Oaxaca, Mexico, since 1989, was last seen in his Honda CR-V driving to a meeting with a notary. Since missing that meeting, nothing has been heard from or of Gilbert, according to the Find Lane Gilbert facebook page.

Gilbert's car was involved in an accident later that day and a man was taken into custody. The man appeared to have bruises and bite marks on his arms, but was released after being photographed and providing what later proved to be a fake name. The man was later tracked by a member of the Find Lane Gilbert team, according to an update posted on Oct. 1, to a village south of Oaxaca City and that information was turned over to the Mexican police.

His mother Jerie and brother Reid, who live in Fairfax, have traveled to Mexico to search for him with the aid of a private investigator. It is believed he may have been kidnapped, although no ransom has been demanded.
