Gas Leak Contained in San Anselmo

Natural gas leak repaired by PG&E near Jordan Avenue.

A natural gas pipe at Jordan Avenue and Southview Terrace was hit by Marin Municipal Water District crews doing trench work around 9:45 a.m. this morning, causing gas to leak out into the area, said San Anselmo Police Sgt. Julie Gorwood.

MMWD was digging a trench along the side of the road for its fire-flow pipe replacement project and hit a 1/2-inch plastic natural gas pipe somewhere along the way, said PG&E spokesperson Katie Romans.

t and San Anselmo Police responded to the scene. "I could smell it and hear it hissing," said Gorwood.

No homes were evacuated, she said, because there were only a few homes nearby and most were empty at that time of day. One family did shelter in place in their home. Romans also said one customer lost service while the repair was happening.

Jordan Avenue was closed from Cottage Avenue to Oak Hill Drive as a precautionary measure.

The initial PG&E crew was unable to repair the leak and a second crew was called in. According to Romans, the leak was repaired at 12:10 p.m. and the road reopened at 12:30 p.m.

There is no danger now to any residents in the area, said Gorwood.
