Marin County sheriff's deputies responded around 12:30 p.m. to the shooting that occurred in the area of 2849 Middle Road, a two-lane rural road, Boyd said.

Weller was pronounced dead at 1:16 p.m., Boyd said. An autopsy was under way this afternoon, Boyd said. The coroner's office and the Department of Fish and Wildlife Service are investigating the shooting.

Weller was a pile driver with C S Marin Constructors Inc. based in Vallejo, a company spokeswoman said. The company builds, repairs, demolishes and salvages piers and docks, according to its website.
