San Rafael Man Among Two Marin Gang Members Convicted of Attempted Murder

One person left paralyzed in January 2011 shooting at Hamilton Marketplace

Two Marin County men have been convicted of attempted murder for a gang-related shooting at Hamilton Marketplace in January 2011, the Marin Independent Journal is reporting

Armando Gil, 30, of Novato and Williams Martinez-Carreon, 19, of San Rafael, were found guilty Wednesday on two counts of gang-related attempted murder, according to the article. They were also convicted of being members of a criminal gang.

The shooting left one person paralyzed and shocked the Novato community because it occurred in broad daylight in a busy shopping center.

Gil and Martinez-Carreon both face life in prison. A third suspect, Gil's girlfriend Alessandra Marie Coyle took a plea deal and became the prosecution's main witness in the crime. The fourth suspect, Luis Felipe Rodriguez, has never been found and is suspected to have left the country, according to the IJ.

The trial is the second for the defendants, after the first one ended in a deadlocked jury.
