Nowhere Near Napa, But Still...

87-year old Marin County driver tries the bike lane short-cut trick, and gets busted. And stuck.

Bay City News Report

A car has become stuck in a pedestrian and bike lane on an on-ramp to southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Greenbrae this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported on the on-ramp from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to the highway at about 12:20 p.m.

The car appears to have driven north onto the bike lane, which is separated from traffic by a concrete barrier and a railing.

At least one person was stuck inside the vehicle, which was itself stuck in the narrow space not meant to accommodate cars, according to the CHP.

As of 2:30 p.m., the car was still wedged in the bike lane, and a tow truck had been called to the scene, the CHP said. Meanwhile, traffic has backed up on eastbound Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, according to the CHP.

... 87-year-old Raymond Pierce of Kentfield drove his 1991 Toyota Corolla station wagon northbound on Nellen Avenue at approximately 25 miles per hour, CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said.

Pierce was attempting to enter the freeway, but became confused and drove onto a pedestrian/bike path that runs along the west side of the freeway and crosses Corte Madera Creek. Pierce continued along the path "until the walls narrowed to such an extent that his vehicle collided with both sides and became wedged solidly" on it, Hohmeister said...

Pierce was not injured in the incident, but his vehicle sustained moderate damage to both sides, Hohmeister said. He was issued a mandatory reevaluation of his driver's license.

Michael Wilson: I don't see the connection between this mans confusion and possibly being a military veteran? Please clarify your stance on veterans. I am proud to have come from a military family.
