Police Log: Men Throwing Bottles and Teenagers Throwing Rocks

The Fairfax Police log for June 10-14 includes a cigar swap that's mistaken for a drug deal.

 

Thursday, June 14

Abandoned vehicle: Meernaa Avenue. 9:57 a.m. Complaint of a vehicle that has been parked in the same spot for a year. Caller advised there is a mattress that has been left behind it.

Garbage complaint: Meernaa Avenue. 9:59 a.m. Anonymous complaint of a desk that has been left on the sidewalk for three weeks.

Suspicious circumstance: Bay Road. 3:02 p.m. Subject claiming to be a subcontractor for PG&E wanted to enter the reporting person’s home to check connections. Reporting person didn’t believe the person was legitimate. The subject was wearing dirty coveralls, a white hard hat, carrying a tool bag and drove away in a gold Prius.

Citizen assist: Arboleda Circle. 6:13 p.m. Reporting person’s daughter has been missing for an hour. She’s a 9-year-old with two suitcases and a pillow. The child was located.

 

Wednesday, June 13 

Barking dog: Cascade Drive. 12:39 a.m. Dog has been barking since around 10 p.m. Dog is in the backyard. Dispatch could hear the dog barking during the phone call. Officer contacted the dog owner who agreed to bring the dog inside.

Garbage complaint: Meernaa Avenue. Anonymous reporting person said a resident has been burning what smells like garbage for the past five days, starting at around 7 a.m. each morning. Disposition: unfounded.

Suspicious person: Forrest Ter. 12:28 p.m. Reporting person said a subject attempted to gain entry into her property about 20-25 minutes ago, shaking two locked gates very hard.

Theft: Fairfax Market on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. 1:37 p.m. Reporting person purchased some items at Fairfax Lumber and left them in a shopping cart outside the Fairfax Market while he went inside to buy some dog food. When he came out, the property had been stolen out of the shopping cart.

Driving under the influence: Sir Francis Drake Blvd. 3:58 p.m. Near M&G.

Found property: Peri Park. 4:10 p.m. Anonymous reporting person turned in a credit card found by a child in the park. The owner was contacted and responded to retrieve it.

Barking dog: Westbrae Drive. 6:21 p.m. Reporting person complained about a neighbor’s dogs. The dogs bark at everything that walks by throughout the day. Caller would like the owners advised of the complaint.

Town code violation: Peri Park on Park Road. 9:37 p.m. One juvenile was playing basketball in the court. Reporting person contacted the juvenile who said he could play in the park at any hour of day or night. Before officers could be dispatched the caller called back to cancel. The juvenile had left the area.

 

Tuesday, June 12

Public intoxication: Near Java Hut on Center Blvd. 1:25 p.m. A 911 call reporting five males throwing bottles up onto Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Subjects were last seen running toward Good Earth. An arrest was made.

Wire down: Hillside Drive and Power Lane. 8:51 a.m. A line is lying in the roadway, partially blocking it. A second reporting person said it is located in the area of the house on the hillside with private gates and continues down the roadway. It is not arcing.

Threats: Redwood Road. 9:26 a.m. Reporting person came in to report being threatened by another Fairfax resident.

Found wallets: Silvestri’s Trailhead. 10:28 a.m. Reporting person turned in two wallets she found on a stump at the top of the trailhead. One has two Visa cards in it. The other was empty. Items were returned to their owner.

Welfare check: Sir Francis Drake Blvd and Marina Drive. 4:53 p.m. Caller reported a subject laying in the grass, just past the bus stop by St. Rita’s. Reporting person also said the subject was “covered in grass.” Reporting person couldn’t tell if he is just sleeping or perhaps passed out and in need of assistance. Subject was gone when the officer arrived at the scene.

Teenagers throwing rocks: Marina Drive. 7:25 p.m. Request to be on the lookout for roughly five teenagers on the hillside above his house. They were throwing rocks down the hill that hit their house. Reporting person said they’re on the trail that leads to Santa Rita Church in Fairfax.

Suspicious woman: Baywood Court. 8:47 p.m. A woman walks up and down the street often, looking up in the air and starting at people. Today the woman was coming out from a walkway and walked almost into the reporting person’s car as reporting person was starting to go forward. Log entry only.

 

Monday, June 11

Traffic complaint: Wessen Lane. 8:55 a.m. Reporting person reported debris in the roadway, left from tree cutting, was causing clearance and traffic issues.

Backhoe in the road: Scenic Road. 9:26 a.m. A large vehicle (backhoe) is traveling up Scenic Road, blocking the entire road and tearing up the roadway.

Vehicle accident: Sir Francis Drake Blvd. 10:56 a.m. A non-injury accident on the west side of the Oak Manor Shopping Center in the eastbound lane. Reporting person said there was a lot of damage and he would like an officer to respond.

Animal complaint: Center Blvd. 12:41 p.m. Reporting person advised of a dog locked in a hot car. Caller said she had been there at least 15 minutes waiting to see if the owner returned and it looks to her like the dog is suffering. Reporting person called back to say the owner returned and retrieved the dog.

Cigar deal: Bolinas Road. 1:33 p.m. Reporting person observed what appeared to be a drug deal between two subjects in the downtown. The subjects walked off in different directions. Officers contacted one of the involved parties and determined that the item in question was a small cigar, not drugs.

Parking complaint: Blackberry Lane and Forrest Avenue. 1:37 p.m. Caller is concerned that people are parking on the side of the road on Blackberry that used to be designated as no parking. There is a vehicle now at the intersection, partially in the red zone. Reporting person is also concerned about people parking with two wheels on the road and the rest off the road in what is generally used as a sidewalk/footpath to walk down the road. A citation was issued.

Fire: Rockridge Road. 5:15 p.m. A large tree branch just came down on a power line. A fire is starting in the tree. A second caller provided the address.

Trespassing at White Hill Middle School: Glen Drive. 7:15 p.m. There is fencing around the building under construction. Reporting person has information that trespassers are there now, inside the fenced area.

Found keys: Fairfax Park on Bolinas Road and Elsie. 10:32 p.m. Anonymous walk-in reporting person turned in a set of keys found on a tree stump.

 

Sunday, June 10

Hazard: Bolinas Road and Elsie. 10:53 a.m. Roots from the trees are sticking up from the ground creating a trip hazard near the arts and crafts booth.

Citizen assist: Ernst Kuehn Automotive on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. 2:25 p.m. Reporting person is blocked in the parking lot. He said he might be able to drive through a small opening onto the roadway but would be on the sidewalk for a short period of time. Reporting person requested police assistance. Service was provided.

Suspicious circumstances: San Miguel Court. 3:13 p.m. An unknown subject entered the backyard and removed a patio umbrella. The dog may have also been injured by the suspect.

Parking complaint: Scenic Road and Manor Road. 4:50 p.m. Reporting person said Scenic Road was blocked by illegally parked vehicles.

Unwanted subject: Bolinas Road and Elsie. 5:59 p.m. Caller said there was a female behind the main stage who was annoying the artists.

Noise complaint: Pavilion at Bolinas Road. 6:13 p.m. Citizen reported loud music coming from one of the downtown clubs. Reporting person could not give an exact location. Reporting person came in to the station later to advise the music was coming from behind the Pavilion.

Generic fire: Porteous Avenue. 7:10 p.m. Large BBQ fire, grease fire.

Public intoxication: Bolinas Road and Broadway. 7:25 p.m. Caller said a female was under the influence and unable to care for herself. An arrest was made.

Many people in Marin are already at 50% or more of their entire income to pay for housing. And weRead More have no rent control here in Marin which is the only way I've seen that most seniors have been able to stay in San Francisco for several decades. Regarding your statement: "Market rate housing generates tax revenues, which in turn pay for schools, parks, emergency services, etc." Low income people pay a lot of sales tax in Marin (which is really high) and that also supports these causes. If they don't have the money to pay property taxes to own property, then the fact is, they just can't pay it. Be thankful that a large group of the population in Marin makes enough money to own property and pay it (and turn around and sell their houses for a handsome profit as well, don't forget about that.) Some folks here are just SPOILED rotten. Perhaps you should lobby that Marin employers just pay people living wages so they can afford to become buyers here and pay property taxes instead of trying to lobby against housing for the poor. Goodness knows how many taxes child-free low income people have paid to support wealthy folks kids and schools here. We don't get any of that, either, but we still have to pay for it...

I've heard that Marin is already in violation (either state or federal, or both) of not havingRead More enough low income housing in the county for its population. I think the county is under pressure to come into compliance which it has been out of in this area for a long time. This can only serve to better the lives of low income and elderly people in our county and perhaps reduce homelessness as well which is something we sorely need to do. However, what is amazing to me is that what we are calling "low income" housing in Marin still costs $1K+ a month per person from what I can tell. That's not "low income". Someone paying that much needs to be earning about $4K a month to keep housing costs in the 25-30% range that every financial planner recommends for a basic budget. I see a lot of low income people working HARD full-time to earn $1,600 a month here in restaurants, grocery stores, retail, hair salons, gyms, even clinics. They can't afford to live in Marin so many of them commute in from the east bay and further north to work in Marin. That is what is not sustainable. Think about the gas and pollution and the quality of life in the community due to turnover because there is no personal interaction with the staff of a lot of these places anymore because they don't stick around for very long.
