Police Search for Prowler Who Attacked Two Women with a Knife

A man armed with a knife had come into the apartment and confronted the two female residents.

San Rafael police are searching for a knife-wielding man who entered an apartment Tuesday night and confronted the two young occupants, according to police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.

At 10:30 p.m. police received reports from a residence in the 200 block of Playa del Rey. A man armed with a knife had come into the apartment and confronted the two female residents, ages 18 and 19, according to Rohrbacher.

"There was a physical fight between the suspect and one of the victims as the other victim was calling police," she said.

The suspect fled before officers arrived. One of the victims had a minor injury and was treated and released by paramedics.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 19 to 25 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build. He has dark skin, high cheekbones and “sun spots” on his face.  He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up so that just his face was exposed.

"The suspect received substantial facial injuries and possible stab wounds to the upper body and he may seek medical attention," Rohrbacher said. Hospital emergency rooms and clinics in the Bay Area are asked to report a patient matching his description.

This afternoon detectives going door-to-door for more witnesses, and checking on parolees, probationers and sex registrants. Police are waiting for more information on physical evidence obtained at the scene.

Anyone with information about incident is asked to call San Rafael police at 415-485-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIP. Callers can remain anonymous and may earn a possible reward.  Tips can also be made online at www.bayareacrimestoppers.com
