Prowling Teenagers and PG&E Blocking Fairfax Residents

The Fairfax Police blotter for Jan. 24-29 includes crowing roosters and a dog that killed backyard chickens.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 29 

Vehicle accident: 7:27 a.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and Marinda Drive. Two vehicle accident. Unknown if there are injuries, RP (reporting person) says one of the vehicles is badly damaged.

PG&E problem: 8:41 a.m. Porteous Avenue and Wood Lane. Anonymous report that the PG&E crew working in the area is not allowing residents in or out of the area.

Traffic complaint: 2:41 p.m. Tamalpais Road. Report of a contractor driving a tractor up the street, damaging the pavement.

 

Monday, Jan. 28

Theft: 10:01 a.m. Sherwood Oaks Apartments on Bolinas Road. RP is at the front counter wishing to report the loss/theft of the rear license plate on her husband’s vehicle.

Citizen assist: 1:37 p.m. West Lot on Center Blvd. RP’s vehicle was struck by another after it parked (door ding). RP would like to speak to an officer about it.

 

Sunday, Jan. 27

Parking complaint: 7:01 p.m. Center Blvd. Dark spots car parked in a disabled parking space with no disabled placard.

Suspicious circumstances: 10:27 p.m. Coin Washing Well on Center Blvd. Two subjects look as if they might be breaking into a silver Toyota Echo. Officers contact the subjects and found one owned the vehicle and had locked his keys in the car.

 

Saturday, Jan. 26

Vehicle accident: 2:32 a.m. Olema Road and Sir Francis Drake Blvd. RP said he was driving through Fairfax when a vehicle swerved off the road. Unknown of east or west intersection.

Vandalism: 1:49 p.m. Fairfax Police Department on Bolinas Road. Vandalism to a vehicle. 

Theft: 11:01 p.m. The Sleeping Lady Café on Broadway. RP is in the Fairfax Police Department lobby now. Her purse was stolen about 20 minutes ago.

Prowler: 11:03 p.m. Rocca Drive. RP reported four to five teenage males were on her deck. One of them climbed a light pole and was tampering with the light.

 

Friday, Jan. 25

Attempt to contact: 12:09 p.m. Scenic Road. RP requesting a welfare check on a juvenile that has not shown up for school in one week. RP contacted the father who advised he has not heard from her daughter in two weeks.

Animal complaint: 4:52 p.m. Scenic Road. RP would like to speak with an office regarding a dog that got into his backyard and killed two of his chickens.

Suspicious circumstances: 11:36 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Ross. Report of a person yelling for help.

 

Thursday, Jan. 24 

Roosters: 7:41 a.m. Scenic Road. Complaint that roosters crow every morning. RP thinks they are below her house between Redwood and Upper Scenic.

Disturbance: 8:05 a.m. Napa Avenue. RP’s roommate hit her then came at her with a knife. RP is locked in her bedroom and suspect is in the kitchen.

Suspicious vehicle: 9:57 a.m. Bolinas Road. A white pick-up truck was parked in the RP’s driveway when the RP pulled up. Multiple subjects that were dressed in construction gear quickly got into the truck an left up Bolinas. RP thinks they may have something to do with the recent burglaries.

Hazard: 2:45 p.m. Park Road. A plastic bag of what appears to be vomit was left by the RP’s driveway. RP feels like it’s a hazard.

Found property: 10:52 p.m. School road. A bag is next to the green waste dumpsters. RP looked and saw the bag contains matter which he belives to be marijuana. RP has no idea who owns it.

Many people in Marin are already at 50% or more of their entire income to pay for housing. And weRead More have no rent control here in Marin which is the only way I've seen that most seniors have been able to stay in San Francisco for several decades. Regarding your statement: "Market rate housing generates tax revenues, which in turn pay for schools, parks, emergency services, etc." Low income people pay a lot of sales tax in Marin (which is really high) and that also supports these causes. If they don't have the money to pay property taxes to own property, then the fact is, they just can't pay it. Be thankful that a large group of the population in Marin makes enough money to own property and pay it (and turn around and sell their houses for a handsome profit as well, don't forget about that.) Some folks here are just SPOILED rotten. Perhaps you should lobby that Marin employers just pay people living wages so they can afford to become buyers here and pay property taxes instead of trying to lobby against housing for the poor. Goodness knows how many taxes child-free low income people have paid to support wealthy folks kids and schools here. We don't get any of that, either, but we still have to pay for it...

I've heard that Marin is already in violation (either state or federal, or both) of not havingRead More enough low income housing in the county for its population. I think the county is under pressure to come into compliance which it has been out of in this area for a long time. This can only serve to better the lives of low income and elderly people in our county and perhaps reduce homelessness as well which is something we sorely need to do. However, what is amazing to me is that what we are calling "low income" housing in Marin still costs $1K+ a month per person from what I can tell. That's not "low income". Someone paying that much needs to be earning about $4K a month to keep housing costs in the 25-30% range that every financial planner recommends for a basic budget. I see a lot of low income people working HARD full-time to earn $1,600 a month here in restaurants, grocery stores, retail, hair salons, gyms, even clinics. They can't afford to live in Marin so many of them commute in from the east bay and further north to work in Marin. That is what is not sustainable. Think about the gas and pollution and the quality of life in the community due to turnover because there is no personal interaction with the staff of a lot of these places anymore because they don't stick around for very long.
