Publisher’s Clearing House Fraud and Teens Look to Party in Abandoned House

Here's a roundup of Central Marin Police Authority activities in San Anselmo for the period of March 20-26.

  • A resident of the 10 block of Lincoln Park reported she received a call from someone representing themselves as “Publisher’s Clearing House,” stating she'd placed second, and began asking about her husband at which point she hung up. She said they knew her address and she felt uncomfortable about that. Advice was given and documentation was provided for the attempted fraud.

  • A resident of the 30 block of Knoll Road reported his house had been burglarized. Entry was gained through the unlocked front door. Taken was $250 in cash and a MacBook Pro computer. A Residential Burglary report was taken and the computer was entered into the Automated Property System.

  • A resident of the 10 block of Grove Hill Ave. North reported her house had been burglarized. The house had been ransacked and a jewelry box was missing.  A Residential Burglary report was taken.

  • A Fairfax resident reported that while he was at the CVS Store, located at 880 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., his ex-girlfriend physically assaulted him. Pursuant to investigating the incident, a Fairfax woman was arrested for Domestic Battery, she was released on a citation at her residence due to a need to care for her children.

  • Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Sir Francis Drake Blvd., a passenger was determined to be in possession of marijuana. A Larkspur man was arrested for Possession of Marijuana in a Vehicle and released on a citation. Another juvenile passenger was found to be in possession of Alcohol. A Ross juvenile male was arrested for being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol. He was released to a responsible adult on a citation.

  • A resident of the 50 block of Merced Ave. reported their red Fuji Tahoe bicycle, with a black basket, that has an "I bike Fairfax" sticker on it, was stolen. The loss is approximately $400. The unlocked bicycle was taken from rear of the residence. Documentation was provided for the theft.

  • An employee of a business in the 600 block of San Anselmo Ave. reported a female subject stole a pair of sunglasses and left on foot towards Tamalpais Ave. The area was checked for the subject with negative results. Documentation was provided for the theft.

  • A resident of the 10 block of Richmond Road reported he is the victim of a telephone sweepstakes fraud. He reported he was contacted by someone representing themselves as “Publisher’s Clearing House” and that he had won a prize, but needed to pay the taxes. He advised he has lost approximately $1,700. A Fraud report was taken. 

  • A caller reported seeing three female subjects enter the property of a vacant residence in the 300 block of Willow Ave. in Corte Madera and they had duffle bags with them. Officers responded and contacted a Kentfield juvenile female, a Larkspur juvenile female and a San Anselmo juvenile female. The San Anselmo juvenile female was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol. The Larkspur juvenile female was arrested for being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol. All were released to a parent. Extra patrols were provided for the residence as the juveniles advised they were going to have a party and about 50 subjects were going to show up.

  • A San Anselmo resident reported that while her vehicle was parked at a business in the 900 block of Sir Francis Drake Blvd., it was keyed on the driver's side. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

  • A resident of the 50 block of Ross Ave. reported his locked bicycle was taken from the front porch of his residence. The bicycle is a silver, with green trim, Kona Hei-hei deluxe, 20 speeds mountain bike, with full suspension, 29" wheels, and a 20" frame. The loss is $2500. Documentation was provided for the theft.
