A San Rafael man arrested earlier this week on suspicion of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident has at least three prior DUI convictions, the Marin Independent Journal reports.
Luis Fernando Davalos, 27, is accused of being behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry that rear-ended another vehicle at freeway speeds, the report said.
The alleged incident occurred on Highway 101 in Terra Linda near Manuel T. Freitas Parkway, the report said.
The Camry was traveling about 55 mph according to the report, which cited the California Highway Patrol.
The 55-year-old female driver of the other vehicle, who is from San Rafael, was injured in the collision, the report said.
A motorist who witnessed the accident called police and followed the Camry to a Merrydale Drive home, the report said.
Police arrived on the scene to question the driver, whom police identified as Davalos, according to the report. Police arrested Davalos, whom they said reeked of booze, after he declined to answer questions or take a sobriety test.
Davalos was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated with three prior DUI convictions, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license for a DUI and a probation violation, the report said.
He was booked into Marin County Jail on $75,000 bail.
