Roads Flooded Last Night and Accident Shears Power Pole

May rains cause small accidents around Marin.

Downed power lines and roadway flooding have caused two road closures in Marin County this morning.

A solo car crash shortly before midnight near Point Reyes-Petaluma and Platform Bridge Road brought down a pole and power lines. The roadway remained closed until PG&E crews cleared the area, CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said.

Around 11:35 p.m. last night, a driver from Pt. Reyes Station was driving westbound on Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road, two miles west of Platform Bridge Road, when he turned sharply to the left and braked hard in an attempt to avoid three deer that ran into the road, CHP officers said. The car spun across the opposite lane of traffic, hit a PG&E power pole and flipped onto its side. The pole was sheared at its base and fell across the eastbound lane of traffic.

Both lanes were closed until PG&E crews were able to respond and shut off the electricity to the power lines. Traffic was limited to one lane until the pole was able to be cleared and replaced by approximately 4 a.m.

The driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene

The off-ramp of northbound U.S. Highway 101 at Shoreline Highway was also closed due to flooding this morning, Caggiano said.

A woman was stranded on top of her car at about 11:30 p.m. Monday due to the high water level. Emergency crews responded and assisted the woman. The off-ramp will be closed until further notice.

Both San Anselmo and Fairfax escaped any major flood incidents with only small back-ups around town.
