San Rafael Police Department Shutters Public Lobby for a Day

The closure is needed to accommodate relocation of personnel and equipment, officials say.

The San Rafael Police Department office will be closed to the public on Friday, a police department spokeswoman said.

The public lobby's closure is needed to accommodate relocation of personnel and equipment, spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

The lobby is expected to be open for normal business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) on Monday.

Many of the department’s operations were moved into trailers in July 2012 in order to allow for energy efficient improvements to be made in City Hall, Rohrbacher said.

The building, which was constructed in 1965, has long experienced problems with the heating, venting, and air conditioning system.

In addition to improving the physical climate in the building, the completed project is expected to reduce energy costs, as well as energy use and emissions, Rohrbacher said.
