Saturday's Fire Caused by Fireworks

Residents warned not to use combustible materials in the watershed.

was likely caused by fireworks, said Marin County Battalion Chief Mike Giannini.

Fireworks were found near the point of origin of the fire. Though no one was seen near the location of the blaze or the fireworks, Giannini said the fireworks were "likely the cause."

The investigation into the blaze, which burned through 3.1 acres and sent 81 fire personnel from Cal Fire, and Marin County Fire working into the night, has been closed barring any new evidence.

Residents are warned not to bring "any flammable materials near anything combustible," which certainly includes dry summer vegetation, said Giannini.

The Saturday night fire was contained within three hours, but it's just lucky, he said, that there weren't high winds in the area or it could have turned into "that nightmare scenario."

The burned area, a map of which can be seen at right, is not closed off, but the fire department is asking residents to stay out of the area because of the danger of burned out trees or limbs falling.

Because the fire happened on Marin Municipal Water District land, any plans to rehab or reseed the land will be left up to MMWD.
