Unlocked Bikes and Vehicles Result in Thefts

Thursday, Jan. 12

Suspicious Circumstances: At 1:40 a.m. there was a report a loud group in the area and that something "out of the ordinary" was going on. Officers responded and checked the area, but were unable to locate any subjects.

Vehicle Accident/No Injury: While on foot in the area, officer observed a non-injury collision at Tunstead Avenue and San Anselmo Avenue. Officer assisted with the exchange of information.

Barking Dog: A dog was reported barking at a residence on Laurel Avenue at 12:31 p.m. An officer responded and found it was quiet. While still on scene, officer observed the dog barking again and a notice was left for the resident.

Petty Theft: At 1:47 p.m., a caller reported that his unlocked mountain bike was stolen on San Anselmo Avenue.

Suspicious Circumstances: On Aspen Court a resident reported that an occupied vehicle was parked in the area and when the resident was walking, a subject from the vehicle yelled out to her in a harassing manner. She requested an officer respond because the subjects appeared suspicious. Officers responded and located the vehicle. It was determined the subjects were waiting for a friend at a resident in the area.

Wednesday, Jan. 11

Hit and Run w/Property Damage: A caller reported that he observed a parked vehicle on Crescent Road get hit by a vehicle that did not stop to leave a note. Officer checked the area, but was unable to locate the victim vehicle.

Citizen Assist: A resident of Spruce Avenue requested advice regarding mail theft. An officer met with the resident and advice was provided.

Suspicious Person: Someone reported a suspicious person who was in the area of Butterfield Road and Caleta Avenue, pushing a shopping car. An officer contacted the subject who was asked to move along.

Suspicious Person: A male subject was reported panhandling for money at Butterfield Road and Sir Francis Drake. An officer responded and contacted the same subject from a previous incident. Subject was again asked moved along.

Narcotic Laws: A resident of Crescent Road there were subjects smoking marijuana in the area. An officer contacted a group of subjects and determined they were smoking tobacco only. Subjects were warned and abated.

Grand Theft: A woman reported that her purse was stolen at 4 p.m. from an unlocked vehicle in the area.

Assist Fire Department: A caller reported the smell of smoke in the area at 4:15 p.m. on Karl Avenue. An officer and the fire department checked the area and determined the smell was coming from a chimney.

Suspicious Circumstances: At 5:19 p.m. a Ross Avenue resident reported that his girlfriend had been assaulted in an East Bay location. The officer spoke with the reporting party and the victim and took a report..

Tuesday, Jan. 10

No/Expired Driver’s License: During a traffic stop at 7:44 a.m., the officer determined the 22-year-old driver was driving while unlicensed. He was cited and released and his vehicle was left legally parked.

Parking Violation: A resident of Crescent Road reported a vehicle was parked in his driveway.  An officer cited the vehicle and advised the owner to move it.

Suspicious Circumstances: A man came into the station to report that a subject walked across his property on Fernwood Drive with a rifle. Extra patrols were requested for the area.

Suspicious Circumstances: A resident of Melville came to the station to report he suspected a neighbor of taking some of his belongings. Advice was provided.

Monday, Jan. 9

Vandalism: A stop sign was sheared off at the intersection of Saunders Avenue and Center Boulevard. An officer placed a temporary stop sign and advised the Department of Public Works.

Animal Call: Dogs were reported off leash in the area of Crescent Road. An officer contacted the owner who was advised of the complaint and ordinance.

Barking Dog: At 4:53 p.m., a caller a barking dog for the last hour on Oakland Avenue. The area was checked and there were no howling dogs anywhere on Oakland Avenue. A dog could be heard barking in the distance from an unknown location. Disposition: Unfounded.
