Woodacre Man Arrested for Leaving Kid in Car

Man pops into Fairfax bar and leaves child in locked car.

A Woodacre man is being held on $50,000 bail in Marin County Jail after he was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of child cruelty for allegedly leaving a child unattended in a warm car in Fairfax.

Sergei Andrey Tchelakov, 47, was arrested by Fairfax police at , at about 2:50 p.m. Monday, a police sergeant said.

Officers were flagged down by someone who noticed that a child had been left alone in a car on what was a warm afternoon, Sgt. James O'Callaghan said.

According to the Marin Independent Journal, witnesses saw the one-year-old in a car seat with the windows rolled up and confronted Tchelakov, who then rolled the windows down and went back inside.

The child was not injured, and was taken into custody by a relative, he said.

The Marin County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the case and deciding whether to file charges. According to the jail's booking log, Tchelakov is a soccer coach.
