Word of Missing Marin 14-Year-Old Quickly Spreads on Facebook

A local tween was last seen Friday at Drake High School in San Anselmo. Why hasn't it been in the news yet?

News of a missing 14-year-old girl, who was last seen Friday at Drake High School in San Anselmo, has been spreading like wildfire on Facebook.

A photo of the girl that was publicly posted on Facebook early Monday morning had gotten more than 600 Facebook shares by noon on Monday.

According to officials with the Central Marin Police Authority, the girl is “voluntarily” missing. In other words, she’s considered a runaway. She could be in San Francisco, Marin or Sonoma County, according to police.

While the girl had been missing since Friday, the police have been quiet about the incident and can't share any additional information about the circumstance because she's a minor and she left on her “own accord,” according to CMPA Officer John Garretson.

Garretson said the police only get vocal — sending out photographs or mass media alerts — about runways when the situation involves “serious imminent threat of life or something of that nature.”

At this point, the only risk that has been identified is the age of the girl — she’s reportedly 14.

Garretson said if you see the girl, you should call the local police. For example, he said, if you see her in the Fairfax Plaza, call the Fairfax Police, or if you see her at the San Rafael Transit Center, call the San Rafael Police for the “most prompt and immediate response.”

We aren’t posting the Facebook photo of the girl because the CMPA couldn’t confirm it was the missing tween. (They said it was a different photo than what a parent provided to the police.) The police also told Patch they couldn't provide a photograph of the runaway juvenile.
