Op-Ed: Obama Should Offer a New Direction for Young Black Americans

Here's what President Barack Obama should say in his Inauguration speech on Monday.

When Barack Obama won the presidency in November 2008, there were a number of emotions I and many conservatives had.

Foremost of all was depression over the idea of four (and now eight) years of a leftist running the country. But aside from the 95 percent of the black population who voted for candidate Obama, there was also more than 50 percent of the white population who put an “X” next to his name in the ballot box.

When talking and writing about racist idiots, one needs to accept the fact that there probably are 10-20 percent of the population who never would vote for a black candidate. We need to dump that 20 or so percent into the dope bin and concentrate on the grand majority of the population.

This sector includes white, black, Hispanic, Asian and Jew alike and would love to see nothing more than total success for the black citizens of America. A successful, educated, socially sound, married, economically comfortable black population makes a better Amercia, even for the idiot racists.

Given this as a set up, I’m pulling for President Obama to really be the leader in the rebirth and rise of young African Americans. I have little doubt that President Obama will continue to divide Democrats and Republicans, screw up the economy and make America weaker in the world. Yet, he is in a terrific position to make the following speech at his second inauguration. He continues to have the best seat in the house and make a difference to millions of impressionable young black men and women. He is their hero, and he can make their lives better by saying the following:

“Americans – I want to thank you all again for giving me four more years to complete my task of transforming America. With that said, I want my fellow black brothers and sisters to hear me out ….

Yes, I can and will help. Yet, it’s my intention to set the table, and have you deliver the goods. The time has come for you to look to one person in particular for help. Look in the mirror and you’ll see who I’m talking about – YOU.

The time has passed when racism can be used as an excuse for not performing or living up to your potential. Sure, there are white racists out there and they are an obnoxious pain in the ass. But, they are in the minority. Most in America want you to succeed and are ready to help.

Believe me, if I can overcome this perceived problem of racism, you can too. I am the President of the United States, and you have me, my cabinet, and the majority of the country who want to see you succeed.

You MUST stay in school. You MUST not have children out of wedlock. You MUST respect your elders and accept the wisdom of your grandparents. You MUST look to develop loving, meaningful relationships that will ultimately lead to marriage. You MUST avoid drugs and look for ways to dodge the temptations to join gangs.

I realize this is not easy, but until we clean our own house, and set high goals, we will repeat the cycle of desperation and isolation. You need to get in the game. The game is not playing for White America, it is playing for America.

And, to facilitate this new game plan, I will be reaching out to those in power, black and white alike, to begin mentoring programs. For every young black man and women who wants to stay in school, work hard, I want there to be a successful businessman or women who will mentor these young minds. I want to see every young black man and women to be taken by a mentor and follow them through their studies and help them find those entry level positions. I want to see you all succeed, and I know the rest of the country does, too.

Work hard, don’t give up, stay in school, avoid unwanted pregnancies, make sure children grow up with fathers, and reach out for the hand of a mentor. Good luck and God bless.

Jerome, it makes perfect sense that you would be the first to endorse the notion that one should be proud of racial stereotyping.

Well said, Ginna. Thank you

Tony, It's called free speech. Or do you agree with Obama and wish to do away witht he first ammendment?

I stand by my earlier comment, Steven. This is not a "news" piece and does not belong in that category. If I want opinions, I read the blogs. If I want opinions masquerading as news, then I start watching FOX or MSNBC, or any other major network as well when it comes right down to it. Not that it matters, but I am not an Obama fan. And I think it's pretty lame that you've resorted to using such a simplistic trick to try to associate me with your own desperate, make-believe accusation and attack on Obama. Do you seriously think he plans to wave his magic wand and make the first amendment disappear?

Wow. Excellently written, random non-racist wealthy white dude. The President of the United States should totally listen to your opinions on how to lead the entire country, let alone just the black community. Why, I'm guessing that some of your best friends are black, so you're basically completely qualified on this matter.
