Fairfax Council to Pick New Member Tonight

Who would you like the council select as the replacement for Ryan O'Neil? What should the council do with the vacancy it will have after Pam Hartwell resigns next week?

The Fairfax Town Council is expected to select tonight which resident will fill its open seat, vacated by Ryan O’Neil in February.

The council is also expected to decide how it will fill another vacancy it will have after Councilwoman Pam Hartwell resigns on April 9.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fairfax Women's Club.

Hartwell, who is moving out of California, submitted her resignation letter last week. She served as the Fairfax mayor in 2012.

The council recently interviewed seven candidates to replace O’Neil. After the interviews, the council was split between two candidates, Barbara Coler and Renee Goddard.

O’Neil’s replacement will serve until the November 2013 election, when the open seat will be placed on the ballot.

On Wednesday night, the council will also discuss protecting pedestrian rights-of-way and consider a street mandala project, brought forward by councilwoman Hartwell. See the entire agenda for the meeting attached as a PDF at the right.

What do you think the council should decide to do tonight with Hartwell’s upcoming vacancy? Who would you like to see be O’Neil’s replacement?
