How much does the city manager earn?

League of Cities releases pay data.

Following the scandal in Bell, where city staff made huge salaries, the question of just how much our city staff should earn remains a hot topic.

Earlier last week, the California League of Cities released data on how much city managers and administrations earn around the state. The data was compiled in a survey of the 468 towns with managers or administrators and nearly 90 percent responded.

The amounts reported can include different things such as vacation pay-outs, but do not include health insurance or the amount the city contributes to the pension fund.

In Marin, San Anselmo and Fairfax are nowhere near the top of the list. Mill Valley paid its manager the most, with Anne Montgomery earning $315,531 -- a number that was inflated because of a large vacation pay-out upon her departure.
