John Reed Named New Mayor of Fairfax

Fairfax council picks David Weinsoff for vice mayor, also delays action on the selection of a new town manager.

The Fairfax council did its annual rearranging at it Dec. 5 meeting, unanimously picking John Reed as mayor and David Weinsoff as vice mayor for 2013.

While it’s not regular protocol for the council to accept public comment while electing a new mayor and vice mayor, they opened the floor to public comment before approving the motion Larry Bragman made to make John Reed mayor.

During public comment, Fairfax’s Sierra Salin told the council, with a smile, that he was presenting himself to be the next town mayor in a “sacrificial” move so the council didn’t have to be in a “scrabble” over picking the next mayor. Salin, who blogs regularly on Patch, also encouraged everyone in the council chambers to not buy excessive things that people don’t really need for the holidays.

There was no public comment after Councilman Ryan O’Neil nominated David Weinsoff for vice mayor, but one person in the audience did yell “yes!”

Reed, who served as Fairfax’s vice mayor in 2012, made an outgoing presentation to outgoing Mayor Pam Hartwell- Herrero, honoring her for all the work she did in the last year.

The council took a short break for cake before it continued with its regular agenda.
