McInerney New Mayor; Thorton Honored

Retiring councilmember Barbara Thornton and outgoing Mayor Ford Greene recognized for their work. New council sworn in.

After eight years on the council, and over 20 years serving the town in capacities on the refuse subcommittee and with green initiatives, Barbara Thornton was honored by the council and town for her work. Thornton stepped down this year after a battle with cancer.

Outgoing Mayor Ford Greene commended her for her character and strength through the year as she continued her work during the chemotherapy.

Greene was also the recipient of some presents for his work as Mayor, including a sash labled "Mayor" and two bags of Snickers to get him through the long meetings.

Vice Mayor Tom McInerney was elected the new Mayor for 2012. And Councilmember Kay Coleman was elected Vice Mayor. Coleman, who was on the verge of nominating fellow councilmember Jeff Kroot before he nominated her, accepted the position, saying, "OK, fine."
