POLL: Who Do You Favor for Congress?

There are 12 names on the ballot, but only two advance to the general election in November. Let us know your favorite in this Patch Poll.

The June 5 election is just under a month away, with several important items on the ballot and a primary contest between no fewer than 12 listed candidates for 2nd Congressional District, stretching from the Golden Gate to the Oregon borer - the "New Two."

Jared Huffman, now representing Marin in the State Assembly, is widely regarded as the front-runner in this election. So the real race is for second place, as the top two finishers will  face off in the November general election, regardless of party.

Will it be Susan Adams, currently serving as Marin County Supervisor, and representing District 1 (San Rafael)? Or Norman Solomon, a long-time anti-war activist and author in his first race? Or perhaps Stacey Lawson, a newcomer to politics?

While those four poll in highest numbers, you are encouraged to vote for your own choice here. A list of all candidates and issues with more information about some of them is available on the smartvoter.org website here.

Remember this is a non-scientific poll; final results may differ. All candidates are listed below, in alphabetical order. Please vote for one, once, to help us take the temperature of the Marin County electorate, one month out.

Her jobs plan is just what we need!!

Her jobs plan is a joke and just says jobs over and over again (When in reality she outsourced her companies job to China and then didn't pay payroll taxes). Get real. Huffman is the only candidate with real experience and he will be getting my vote. Speaking of voting....Lawson doesn't do that either. Meg Whitman anyone?

This is kind of a big deal (This congressional district seems to be an appointment for life..) and I'm not hearing anything about it. Are there any debates? Any real dialog about issues? Send me a link if anyone knows anything. If this is just a name recognition contest, then Huffman's gonna win.

If we do not put our attention on our Democracy we are going to lose it. There is so much non-sense currently placed in the public eye as a distraction....we need to give our respect to the seriousness of our situation and work toward our common good by electing people that truly honor and represent our values. Our fragile planet, our health, our position in a peaceful world..... Our liberty and freedom are at risk. Vigilance is a requirement. Please research and give deep thought to your local representatives. If you are in District 2 of California. Please vote for Normon Solomon. Please read: http://www.marinij.com/westmarin/ci_20552252/congressional-candidate-nor\ man-solomon-devoted-life-voicing-progressive I think you may agree that Norman Solomon is a man of intelligence, dedication, integrity, action and total comittment. What more can we ask?

barbra I thought I agreed with you about Norman solomon, but he seems like he has become kind of angry and off his center lately. Whn someone spends more time complaining about the competition than talking about themselves, you have to be careful. only my opinion

Ideals are essential, and I have no doubt that all the candidates have thought long and hard about theirs. They serve as guiding stars in your behavior, but that's not what I'm interested in hearing about. Here's an open question to all candidates for this post: As an incoming congressional freshman in what is likely to be the minority party in a divided congress, what issues are you ready to work on, shepherd through committee and bring forward for a vote? Give me your top 3. Issues.. Not who you are or where you're from or how great everyone thinks you are.

I have to say, Norman Solomon is the real deal as they say--I've known him since 1987, and seen him rise as a writer, activist and organizer. You won't find anyone out there with a stronger commitment to grassroots progressive politics, to being courageous and principled, and standing up for what's right. In politics you have to differentiate yourself in a crowded field. Solomon is the only one who has called for closing California's nuclear plants, stood up strong against the attacks on Social Security and the closures of local post offices, and refused to take any corporate money. Solomon has promoted the idea of taxing Wall Street transactions to create green sustainable jobs. He knows his stuff and has deep integrity. Please consider Solomon for this seat, he's a perfect follow-up to Lynn Woolsey. Thanks.

Lawson appears to me to be a corporate shill -- with the usual nefarious bigwig backers. Write her off. Vote for a REAL progressive who has PROVEN which side she is on AND that she can take the heat of public office: Susan Adams.

hi Louis, I'm curious. Can you please name some of the "nefarious bigwig backers" that you are accusing Lawson of shilling for. My impression is she is very focused on trying to grow small local manufacturing businesses. Is that bad? Thanks.

and btw: Two of Huffman's largest contributors in the last election were AT&T and Gallo Wines.
