Ready to Think About the November San Anselmo Council Race?

It might seem early, but the council race is already taking shape after the president of the Tamalpais Union High School District announced he will run for council this November.

San Anselmo resident John Wright, president of the Tamalpais Union High School District, recently announced he will run for the San Anselmo Town Council this November.

Wright, 60, has served on the Tam Union school district board since 2001. He was a board member of the Ross Valley School District from 1994 to 1999. He has lived in San Anselmo for 23 years, is married to Ruth Kiskaddon Wright and has three sons.

Sir Francis Drake High School student and San Anselmo resident Nick Seminerio, who served as the North Bay regional field organizer for President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, has been hired to be Wright’s campaign manager.

Four of the council’s five seats will be on the November ballot, including the seats of Mayor Kay Coleman, Vice Mayor Jeff Kroot and Councilman Tom McInerney.

Also on the ballot will be the seat of Liz Dahlgren, who the council picked on April 23 to replace Councilwoman Lori Lopin. Lopin resigned in February for family and health issues.

Dahlgren was formally sworn into the council this week.

It’s too early for candidates to formally pull papers to run for council, but it apparently hasn’t stopped some San Anselmo residents, such as Wright, from getting a head start on election season.

McInerney told Patch he is planning on running for council again and has recently been working on forming his election committee.

Coleman confirmed Monday she is also planning on running for re-election in November.

Kroot said he is undecided about running again in November. “It’s still a couple of months away and I still haven’t made a final decision,” he said. “I’m still thinking it over.”

A media release announcing Wright’s candidacy said Marin County Supervisor Katie Rice and Lopin have endorsed Wright’s campaign for council.
