San Anselmo Council Member Resigns

Lori Lopin is the second council member to resign in the last two weeks in Ross Valley.

Less than two weeks after a Fairfax council member resigned, San Anselmo councilwoman Lori Lopin has submitted a letter announcing her resignation from council.

Lopin will resign due to family and health issues, according to San Anselmo Town Manager Debbie Stutsman. Lopin’s resignation will be effective on Feb. 25.

Lopin did not immediately return phone calls or e-mails asking for additional information.

In her resignation letter, Lopin said she is “so grateful to all of [the council] and especially to the residents of San Anselmo for trusting me and electing me to the Town Council," according to Stutsman.

“Lori has been a valued member of our council; insightful and hard-working. She cares about the "community" of San Anselmo and, although I am sure she will continue to find ways to be involved, we will all miss her at our meetings,” said San Anselmo Mayor Kay Coleman in a statement.

The council will consider options for filling the vacancy at its Feb. 26 meeting.

The Fairfax council decided to appoint a replacement to fill the seat of Ryan O’Neil, who resigned from the council on Feb. 7 because he moved to a house just outside the town limits.

According to the Marin Independent Journal, no applications had been submitted to replace O’Neil as of Feb. 16.

I hope Lori's position wil be filled by someone raising a family in San Anselmo. We badly need an imaginative and progressive leader with 21st century ideas to replace Lori.
