Should Fairfax Ban Roosters?

While backyard chickens are becoming more and more popular in Marin, many municipalities aren’t as welcoming to the hens’ male counterparts.

Fairfax is considering joining other Marin towns, including San Anselmo and Mill Valley, in adopting an ordinance banning roosters, according to a report in the Marin Independent Journal.

Fairfax town staff brought the issue to the council after the town’s planning department and Fairfax Police Department began seeing a flux in rooster-related complaints, according to the IJ.

 The Fairfax Town Council discussed the topic on Sept. 4 and will consider a draft ordinance on the topic at a future meeting.
