What's Open on Labor Day

Most things are closed for the national holiday.

When the first Labor Day was celebrated in 1885 it was supported by the labor unions to give working stiffs the day off. It is fitting then that most things are closed as employees head home for the long weekend that marks the end of summer.

Schools: All schools, and all Ross Valley private schools are closed.

Government Offices: Both Fairfax and San Anselmo Town offices are closed. The police are, of course, still working.

Post Office: All post offices are closed on Labor Day.

Libraries: Both and are closed on Monday for Labor Day. Both libraries are also regularly closed on Sunday.

Many smaller shops are taking the day off or have reduced hours. However, the major grocery stores are open, so get your BBQ supplies.
