You Be the Judge: Fees in Fairfax

Council approved revised Master Fee schedule. What do you think?

At Wednesday night's Fairfax Town Council meeting, the council approved a revised Master Fee schedule (available at right). The Master Fee schedule encompasses all fees that are paid to the town for permits, applications, fines, and renovations.

The town is allowed, legally, to charge equal to its costs for performing the service. In 2009, an outside audit was completed to allocate all the costs for the various town functions and a Master Fee schedule was approved in October 2010.

In most cases, the fees, which largely did not cover the town's costs before, rose. In some instances, the town decided to subsidize certain thing, such as energy-efficient renovation moves.
