Green Tips Requests Your Help

Sustainable Fairfax needs your help as we travel on the Road to Zero Waste. Plus, I bet you can guess what I got for Christmas...

Please help Sustainable Fairfax and the Town of Fairfax achieve our goal of Zero Waste by 2020! Simply follow this link and take our brief survey. We truly appreciate your time in helping us with this important project.

The next Green Tips Blog will be posted in a week. In the meantime can you guess what I got for Christmas? In my last blog about using cloth towels instead of paper, I confessed that I use Kleenex, one of the least sustainably produced brands of face tissues. Well, much to my surprise and delight I got hankies for Christmas. In addition to a collection of vintage hankies from my mum and a friend, my mum also gave me a Kleenex style box of reusable organic cotton tissues.

The cute box is made of waterproofed cardboard and has a drawer for the used tissues. Plus it is both waterproof and compostable. The tissues are soft and petite. While looking to see where to purchase more I discovered, via facebook, that the company, Better For Grownups, just went out of business. You still might find some on Amazon. They were a division of Better For Babies, which is still in business.

I’m enjoying using my hankies. Maybe you can too. Do you have any tucked away in a drawer somewhere?

And don’t forget to take the survey. We really do need your feedback. Thanks!

Inspired by your blog, I have completely given up Kleenex. (Well almost completely--where else to blot lipstick or help out a visitor with a sneeze?) I found some men's white cotton hankies at Macy's and then went to ebay where I found several collections of lovely Irish linen hankies. Now I tuck one in my jeans pocket or up the sleeve of my sweater and am set for the day. So thanks!

I love it! Thanks for sharing, Joan. Maybe I should get some hankies too. Now i'm feeling left out. ; )

While I haven't completely given up paper tissues, I am using my hankies with great pleasure. Just today I saw a woman with a hankie, I might not have noticed before.
Please do take the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FxPATCH. It will really help our Zero Waste Committee move forward on our commitment to making Fairfax a Zero Waste Community by 2020. We thank you for your time.

Good Lord People! There is such a thing as too much information. These comments are disgusting.

I've carried a "handkerchief" for as long as I can remember. Real men don't carry "hankies". And Dad, if you think this is bad, wait until the conversation gets to the waste created by disposable diapers.

Thanks Tony for the clarification about language. I suspect that many men still carry handkerchiefs. I know several.

I went to the Smashburger in Novato & have to say that it was a disappointing experience. TheRead More burger was very mediocore & the onion rings were awful-very greasy. The staff were not friendly & operated with a "Bambi in the headlights" look about them. I do wish Smasburger luck in their locations. However, from my perspective there is a good deal of work that still needs to be done with the food, staff & service. At this time, "In & Out" Burger is a "hand's down favorite...thanks
