Brainstorm About the New School Boundaries

Do you have ideas for the boundaries?

This Thursday at a special meeting at 7 p.m., the will consider some final proposals for elementary school boundaries, before approving a couple of scenarios to present to the community. But, a Patch reader hopes to coordinate a brainstorming session before that meeting for families to come up with solutions that they can present to the board.

Read about the and versions of the new boundaries being proposed.

The main issue for the district board is that with four equal K-5 schools -- once Brookside Lower and Upper are transitioned to two K-5 campuses -- there is a need to send an equal number of students to every campus. But, with Brookside location near the back of Sleepy Hollow and with very few families living around that campus, some students will have to be assigned to Upper from farther away. This means that those students may be closer to another campus -- or -- but will have to travel (likely drive) past Lower to get to Upper.

This has made a number of families upset and started arguments between neighborhoods about who should be the families to travel to Upper.

Thursday's meeting is expected to be packed and may be moved to a different location to accommodate all the attendees.

But, a dedicated Patch reader is hoping that meeting doesn't become just a complaint session and that parents can come up with solutions instead. San Anselmo resident Matt Brasler is hoping to host a brainstorming session Wednesday night at a local restaurant for parents and community members to try and come up with ideas or solutions for the Upper Brookside problem, which they can then present to the board.

He needs your input. Would you come to a brainstorming session? Do you have ideas? Opinions? Thoughts? Leave a comment below or email Matt at brzmnky@yahoo.com, so he can coordinate a boundary brainstorming.
