Fairfax Class Ties for First Place in Coloring Contest

Laura Honda’s third grade class at Fairfax's Manor School was one of the top winners of an art contest celebrating the Marin Municipal Water District’s 100-year anniversary.

The class tied for first place in the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed Centennial Coloring Contest's K-5 class category. 

Also, Tévis O’Connor, who just completed third grade at Fairfax's Manor School, earned a honorable mention in the individual winners category. 

About 300 students representing 20 different schools entered the contest, which the water district sponsored as part of its centennial anniversary celebrations. April 25, 2012, marked 100 years since MMWD received its charter as the first municipal water district in California.

The young artists used crayons, markers, colored pencils, paints, glue, glitter, tissue paper and other materials to color an outline of Mt. Tamalpais and Bon Tempe Reservoir.

The class winners received $100 for their classes. Each of the first-place individual winners took home an award certificate and a check for $100. The second and third place winners received $50 and $25, respectively.
