According to Coach Doug Donnellan, Chavez was the difference for the Pirates in the quarter-final play-off game. Chavez helped create momentum for the team and control the court. Usually a bench player, Chavez was the lead scorer with 16 points.

KEY TO AWESOMENESS: Chavez shot 80 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free throw line to help make the difference for the Pirates. The senior guard stepped up in the important MCAL game and sank a couple key shots in the first quarter to keep Drake in the game. In the second half, as the Pirates pulled away from the Bulls, Chavez came off the bench to control the court and lead his team.
