Where Are They Now? An Update on Former Drake Student Athletes Aaron and Alex Pribble

"Where Are They Now" is an opportunity to share information, news, and announcements about our community's former student athletes with brief Real Estate and Mortgage industry updates.

Aaron Pribble: 1998 Drake Graduate. Varsity Baseball, Basketball and Soccer

Upon graduating from Drake in 1998, Aaron received a baseball scholarship to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. After posting a team-leading ERA his final season, he went on to play two summers of independent baseball and one, internationally, in France.

Aaron then traded his cleats and glove for a career teaching social studies at Tam High. Several summers into his new profession he returned to the mound, slightly farther away from home. Aaron recently published a book about this experience, entitled Pitching in the Promised Land: A Story of the First and Only Season in the Israel Baseball League, which was named one of Baseball America’s 10 Best Books of 2011. He continues to teach at Tam is awaiting his next international adventure.

Alex Pribble: 2003 Drake Graduate. Varsity Basketball and Soccer

Upon graduating from Drake, Alex was a 'recruited walk-on' for the basketball team at UC Berkeley. After two years on the team he earned a scholarship, eventually becoming a team captain by his senior year. Following his playing career, he decided to remain at Berkeley as a graduate assistant coach while pursuing a Master's Degree in Education.

Alex also spent three years at Tamalpais High School as a PE teacher and head boys basketball coach. During that time he founded Hawks Hoops Camp, which has become a staple of the southern Marin community.

Currently, Alex is an assistant basketball coach for the San Francisco State basketball team, and is also a lecturer in the Kinesiology department. He has aspirations of eventually becoming a head basketball coach at the collegiate level.

** With our focus on the Drake athletic community, we would be remiss not to mention the passing of Cap Lavin, a great man and a legend in our community. Our thoughts are with his surviving family members and his memory will live on through the thousands of lives he touched. **

What’s happening in the real estate market? - Russ Knudsen

Several of you buyers are frustrated right now as over 50 percent of Marin properties are in contract. Multiple offers are almost guaranteed on new listings but don't give up. If you are a buyer stay pro-active, make sure you are prequalified and be willing to compete for that first time or investment property. The 2013 sales total is less than 2012 but the median price is up by almost $50,000. If you are a buyer and you want talk to me about Off-Market opportunities through my networking services to avoid the multiple offer frenzy please give me a call at 717-0026. If you are a possible seller I’m happy to provide a free evaluation of your house. GO PIRATES!

What’s going on in the mortgage industry? - Shannon Levenson

Rates have been on the rise in 2013 and there's no consensus on where they will go next. On a positive note, there has been some fluctuation recently, and simply seeing something other than a relentless trend higher is an improvement from the past several months. On a negative note, similar patterns typically resolve by initially breaking higher, though many of them return lower in short order.  All told, rates remain near historic lows, and from a long-term perspective, it is still a great time to get a loan to either buy or refinance your real estate.
