Drake Blanks San Marin in MCAL Baseball Semis

Victory sends Drake to league tournament finals on Saturday at Albert Park. Pirates will play the winner of tonight's Marin Catholic/Tamalpais game.

Drake took an early lead and never looked back as Joe Ryan and David Ross combined on a two-hitter to lead the Pirates to a 5-0 victory over San Marin in a Marin County Athletic League playoff semifinal on Thursday.

No. 2 Drake (20-5) will play for the league championship on Saturday night against the winner of tonight game between No. 2 Marin Catholic and No. 4 Tamalpais.

The title game will be played at Albert Park at 7 p.m.  No. 6 San Marin (14-11-1) is expected to advance to the North Coast Section playoffs.

In Thursday's game, Drake jumped out to what turned out to be an insurmountable 5-0 lead in the first inning.

The outburst was more than enough support for the Ryan/Ross tandem, who combined for 13 strikeouts.

Ryan, who started the game and was credited with the win, pitched three innings of two-hit ball. He struck out six batters and allowed no walks.

Ross struck out seven batters and allowed three walks in four innings of one-hit ball.

Will Martel's two-out two-run double highlighted the Pirates first-inning rally.   Ross and Nick Robinson each contributed two hits.
