Drake to Face San Marin in MVAL Baseball Semis

By Gideon Rubin

San Marin High will play Drake in a Marin Valley Athletic League playoff semifinal Thursday night.

No. 6 San Marin (14-10-1, 11-7 MVAL) is coming off an emotional 3-1 victory over crosstown rival Novato on Tuesday.

Top-seeded Drake (19-5, 14-4) had a first-round bye.

The title game will be held on Saturday. All remaining MVAL playoff games will be held at 7 p.m. at Albert Park

The winner of tonight's game will face the winner of Friday's semifinal between No. 2 Marin Catholic (15-10, 12-6) and No. 4Tamalpais (15-9, 12-6).

Great pitching has taken San Marin to within a game of the league championship, a pattern that held true to form in the Novato game as Chrit Rudkin allowed one unearned run in six innings of two-hit ball.

The Mustangs team ERA is 2.52.

Drake features a formidable lineup with five hitters batting over .300. Tyler Weeks is among the most dangerous of the bunch, batting .387 (24 for 62) with 24 RBI.

The Pirates also feature Eric Smith (.357 average), Marcus Anderson (.344 average) and Danny Nilson (.333 average, seven extra-base hits).

The two teams split their previous league meetings, with San Marin winning 2-1 on April game and Drake getting payback with a 9-1 victory on May 7.
