Drake's Euphrat Earns All-MCAL in Basketball

League also honors Jeremy Steele, Cassie Howard and Darrian Cross with Honorable Mention awards; the Pirates girls arguably deserved better.

boys basketball standout was selected to the All-Marin County Athletic League first team in a vote of the coaches.

The junior was one of four Pirates honored. The other three earned Honorable Mention status – senior among the boys and senior and junior among the girls.

Euphrat ranked sixth in the MCAL in scoring this past season with a 13.0 average.

He was joined on the All-MCAL first team by Redwood’s Matt Mareno, Terra Linda’s Mike Best, San Marin’s Chris Glennon and Marin Catholic’s David Ahern.

San Marin star Stuart Wesonga was named Player of the Year.

Steele was honored for his strong scoring (7.6) and rebounding (4.9).

Meanwhile, the two Drake girls stars seemed to take votes away from each other as both, on numbers alone, warranted greater consideration than just Honorable Mention honors.

Howard was the league’s second-best rebounder at 8.8 per game while also finishing as the No. 7 scorer (10.4).

Cross ranked fourth in rebounding (7.4) and 11th in scoring (9.1).

The All-MCAL first team for the girls featured Tam’s Jenna May, Justin-Siena’s Hailey Breakwell and Katherine Lee, Marin Catholic’s Emily Easom and San Marin’s Leeann Alferness.

Branson senior Liz Coito was selected Player of the Year.
