Euphrat Orchestrates Improbable Drake Comeback

Down 20 points in the third quarter, the Pirates rally in front of their home crowd to beat Redwood and remain unbeaten in MCAL boys basketball.

SATURDAY’S SCORE: 47, Redwood 43

DRAKE’S RECORD: 9-5 overall, 3-0 in MCAL

GAME SUMMARY: The Drake boys basketball team managed to retain its undefeated record in Marin County Athletic League play following a stunning 47-43, come-from-behind victory at home against Redwood in a rare Saturday night league matchup.

The Pirates, who trailed by 20 points late in the third quarter, 37-17, went on a 26-4 run fueled by the raucous crowd and a suddenly unstoppable , who ended up with 13 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Drake held Redwood to a total of just six points in the final quarter and by the time the improbable comeback was complete Drake had forced Redwood into 26 turnovers.

Senior center was a force on the boards throughout, leading the Pirates with nine rebounds.  scored nine points, and the senior forward dished out five assists as well.

REACTION: “It was a disappointing three quarters,” said Drake coach . “The guys will tell you that they were disgusted with themselves. We needed something to charge us. 

"One play was not going to change the game, but and Alec Kenilvort lifted us defensively, which gave us that hope, and then we began playing with that energy and belief that we were still in it.  And offensively, Joey Euphrat was giving us everything.”
