The Pirates Tennis Team Squeaks by Novato

Drake's number one Schauer defeats rival Denney; team takes 5-4 victory.

Drake won a nail-biter at home against Novato by claiming three of the matches' ten-point super tiebreakers.

"The girls showed a lot of heart today," said Pirates coach Rocky Pierson. "We had victories where girls were able to persevere through tough ten-point tiebreakers."

Drake's Samantha Schauer was able to avenge her loss from earlier in the season versus Monica Denney in a highly competitive match, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 (super tie-breaker).

"I am proud of the girls and they are getting better with more experience," said Pierson. "The team is growing tennis-wise and we are progressing nicely heading into Thursday's match-up with Terra Linda."

The Pirates also got a huge contribution from Sadie Court, who defeated Isley Fosett 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.

For the team, however, this is only their second match win of the regular season and their playoff hopes according to their coach, "are not looking real good."

With three matches left to play, Drake is on the outside looking in, sitting two games out of a playoff seed. Much like the San Francisco Giants, they need to get hot quickly and hope another team chokes.
