Ready for the Fairfax Festival? Don’t Forget the Sunscreen

Local officials are preparing for a major regional heat wave, but the temperatures aren't expected to get above 90 on Saturday, the day of the annual Fairfax Festival.

This weekend’s heat wave may not create as high of temperatures as initially expected, but it should still be hot for the annual Fairfax Festival, set for Saturday in downtown Fairfax.

Y’all probably already know the drill, but “FaxFest” includes a parade down Broadway and Bolinas, three live music stages, brews, the Ecofest (which includes an organic wine tasting), a flea market, arts and crafts, food and youth activities. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

As of Thursday morning, the weather forecast for Fairfax and San Anselmo predicted highs of 77 Thursday, 88 Friday, 84 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday, according to the Weather Channel.

In an e-mail to regional emergency officials Wednesday afternoon, a National Weather Service meteorologist said that hot temperatures are still forecasted for “far interior areas” across the north and East Bay, but “this will not be a heat event for the major metro areas in the San Francisco Bay area or the coastline.”

Local fire officials are still asking community members to be careful in the forecasted heat while fire danger will remain high.

Officials are also reminding beach goers to be careful, as intense rip currents are expected.
