How to Rig an Election with Only $26 in Parts and an Eight-Grade Science Education

The privatization of elections is one of the most dangerous crises for American democracy. By means of proprietary, corporate-owned software, one programmer can dictate the outcome of any election.

I'm going to offer a lot of information here for anyone concerned about possible election fraud by tampering with electronic voting machines.  I will be presenting my findings in the same chronological order as I researched it.  Since I am an abysmally slow typist, I will provide links to direct you to different articles and videos which can provide you with more detailed information in a manner far surpassing anything I could attempt.  I'm a bit technologically-challenged, so if the links typed on this blog do not immediately click you to the desired location, please scroll down to the very first comment following this posting.  From past experience, I know that links typed in as comments work.

I have always been extremely distrustful of electronic voting machines.  They are often prone to inexplicable error, easy to hack, and most times leave no verifiable paper trail for recount.

Warning bells began to ring when I watched this report by Ben Swann on Mitt Romney's financial connection to Hart voting machines in Hamilton County, Ohio:

Hamilton County could be pivotal in deciding which candidate wins Ohio's electoral votes.  Ohio, in turn, could be pivotal in who wins the presidency.

Curious about Hart voting machines, I found that in 2008, a whistleblower lawsuit was filed against Hart InterCivic claiming the company lied to election officials about the reliability of their voting machines.

And that there was evidence of electronic vote flipping occurring on Diebold, ES&S, and Hart balloting machines:

In May of 2007, Secretary of State Debra Bowen (bless her soul) commissioned a review of electronic voting systems (which included Hart InterCivic) in the state of California.  Security experts found significant security flaws in all of the manufacturers' voting systems that could allow a single non-expert to compromise an entire election.

At this point, I seriously thought that the vote count in Hamilton County, Ohio would be manipulated and compromised.  It seemed too rich a prize to ignore.  But, I sat on it for a week thinking that it was already to late to put any monitoring in place to watch out for electronic balloting monkey-business.

Then just this morning, I read that ES&S secretly installed unauthorized "experimental" software in 39 counties' tabulators in an alleged violation of state election law in (you guessed it) Ohio.

And to sum it all up, I found a link to a most excellent article by Victoria Collier entitled "How to Rig an Election" in this month's edition of Harper's magazine.  If you don't read anything else I've mentioned so far, please at least read this article.  It is the most informative piece I have ever run across concerning electronic voting fraud and the subversion of democracy.

I think I'll put that at the top of my list of links in the comment box directly below.
