Chamber Adopts Family Devastated by Tragedy

Tika Hick and son have mounting medical and living expense bills. Town pitches in to help out resident.

For the tenth year in a row, the is sponsoring someone in need as part of their holiday luncheon. While past donation drives have focused on organizations or anonymous students in the Ross Valley, this year the chamber is looking to help a specific family in need

Earlier this year, . He was vacationing there with his long-time girlfriend, Tika Hick, a preschool teacher at Marin Primary, and their son, Indigo.

The family was in Hawaii to recuperate before Hick went in for breast cancer surgery. She had undergone months of chemotherapy before undergoing a double mastectomy, according to a family friend at the time.

It was an easy decision for the San Anselmo Chamber to reach out and try to help a local going through a very hard time.

“Bo Hick, Tika's brother, was extremely happy about our outreach and warmly accepted the Chamber's sponsorship,” said Director Connie Rodgers.

In the past, the Chamber has been so successful at their holiday drives that it used to take three cars to deliver all the wish list items to 9 Grove Lane, the teen crisis center that closed in San Anselmo. Last year, , whose husband died of a sudden heart attack just before the holidays.

Because Tika and Indigo live in a small second unit behind the house they had to sell before Potts’ death, too many donations of toys or large items would fill up the place, said Bo.

Instead, the Chamber is collecting size four and five diapers, wet wipes, Enfamil formula for up to 12-month-olds, and Target and Gap gift cards for basic needs.

Along with sending out a mailing to its members, the Chamber also reached out to , which will be pitching in to help the family.

Donations can be brought to the Chamber holiday luncheon at San Domenico on Dec. 8.
