Marin Bike Coalition Gets Pumped for Bike Month

A NorCal championship race in Novato, Bike to Work Day and a month-long Team Bike Challenge are all part of National Bike Month to "celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride."

 

A quick glance at the hundreds of cyclists on the , the trails of or the roads of West Marin any day of the week reveals that every month is bike month in Marin.

But when National Bike Month comes around each May, the Marin County Bicycle Coalition makes sure that those who haven't yet taken to the power of the pedal have plenty of reasons to do so.

Adding to the buzz is Sunday's NorCal High School Cycling League champtionship race at Stafford Lake in Novato, where several Marin teams including (currently in first place) will attempt to hold on to their high rankings. We'll be publishing an interview with the Drake Pirates' mountain biking coach Paul Chourre soon.

The Marin coalition has unveiled plans for 17 "Energizer Stations" for the Bay Area’s 18th Annual Bike to Work Day on May 10, with volunteers (including Mill Valley Patch on the bike path) setting up along much-used bike commute routes to dole out free snacks, giveaways and encouragement. The coalition is also participating in the Team Bike Challenge, in which cyclist teams log trips and miles as part of a competition to see who can rack up the most cycling miles throughout May.
