Week Ahead: Handel’s ‘Messiah,’ Turkey Trot and a Winter Wonderland

Monday

Handel's "Messiah"When: 8 p.m.

Dominican University Winifred Baker Chorale and the Orchestra of St. Catherine present choruses from the Christmas portion of George Frideric Handel's "Messiah". Also featured will be Lauridsen's "O Magnum Mysterium", Sweelinck's "Hodie", Pärt's "Bogoróditse Djévo", Ives' "Christmas Carol", and Olatunji's "Betelehemu."

Where: San Rafael Community Center (618 B Street)

Jumping Jacks is an hour-long class that consists of activities that encourage creative movement, balance and hand-eye coordination. These activities are done in a high-energy, fun-filled atmosphere.

 

Wednesday

Greek Folk Dancing

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: San Rafael Community Center (618 B Street)

Students will learn dances from Northern Greece as well as the fundamentals of Greek Folk Dances so that they can dance on every Greek party or feast. There are over 4,000 traditional dances that come from all regions of Greece. Rhythm is an important aspect of those dances. Come dance to some of these rhythms and have fun! Moreover, it is also healthy for body and mind.

 

Thursday

13th Annual Marin Turkey Trot

When: 7 a.m.

Where:  1800 Ignacio Blvd. (Novato)

Allow yourself some guilt-free indulgence this Thanksgiving Day by spending the morning burning off the calories you will replace later with pumpkin pie! The 13th Annual Turkey Trot is a great way to spend the day with your family doing something active and helping the community with your non-perishable food donations which will be donated to the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank. 

 

Friday

San Rafael Parade of Lights

When: Noon to 8 p.m.

Where: Downtown Fourth Street (1090 Fourth Street)

Downtown San Rafael kicks off the Holiday Season with the Parade of Lights, Winter Wonderland, and the special Holiday Market. This fun family-oriented event includes a marketplace on Friday and free snow sledding on A Street.  The sledding will continue on Saturday, snow conditions permitting.
